From fixing potholes to making sure our drains flow well, the work we do to improve our roads helps keep you on the move. Over the last two weeks, we repaired 34 streetlights, cleared 509 gullies and repaired 124 potholes, as well as undertaking other maintenance.

We want to deliver services to be proud of - and you can help. If you spot a pothole, or see something else which needs fixing, you can tell us via the link in the comments.

Councils across Oxfordshire and West Berkshire are working together to prepare for changes to how local government is organised in the future.

Here in West Berkshire we don't know yet whether we'll be part of the chosen proposal. We're included in two of the three different options put forward, with the other focusing solely on Oxfordshire.

The government is expected to announce its decision in July, following a consultation earlier this year on proposals for one, two or three new councils to replace the current councils in 2028.

While we don’t yet know the outcome, councils are planning ahead so that:

✅ Services continue without disruption.

✅ Communities are supported through any changes.

✅ Things become simpler for residents in the long term.

Whatever happens, the aim is to make services easier to access and reduce duplication so more money can be reinvested where it matters most. We will keep everyone updated as the process moves forward.

Looking after a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming.

That’s why we've launched free online resources to help West Berkshire residents manage care with less stress. Tools such as e-learning and an easy-to-use app called Jointly help keep everyone connected, organised and on the same page. Check out the images below to read what carers using Jointly had to say about the app.

Use code WESTBERKS to get started today.

We're celebrating our amazing unpaid carers this week!

We kicked off with a feel-good Chitty Chitty Bang Bang singalong at The Watermill… then kept the good vibes going with a packed buffet, dancing and ukulele favourites at Fair Close Day Centre!

Next up, an Afternoon tea and chat this Thursday at Thatcham Garden Centre

If you’re finding it harder to keep up with household costs, support is available.

The Crisis and Resilience Fund is here to help residents facing financial pressures. It can provide practical support with essentials like food, furniture and household appliances, as well as help towards rent or energy bills when you need it most.

We’re working with local partners, including West Berkshire Foodbank, Citizens Advice West Berkshire and Newbury Resource Centre, to make sure support is easy to access.

Do you know someone who:

▪️ helps a family member, friend or neighbour
▪️ balances caring alongside work, education or other responsibilities
▪️ would never think of themselves as an unpaid carer

They might not realise support is available, or feel comfortable asking for help.

By encouraging someone to register as a carer, you'll be making a real difference and helping ensure unpaid carers in West Berkshire get the support they need and deserve.

We have leaflets available in English, Polish, Portuguese and Romanian (other languages and formats are available on request).
