On 26th of May, Healthwatch West Berkshire had the privilege of attending the West Berkshire Learning Disability Partnership Board Big Open Meeting.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet members, talk about the work we do, and explain how people can share their experiences of health and social care services with us.

We would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome, the interesting conversations, and the valuable feedback we received. Events like these help us better understand what matters most to local people and how we can continue to make sure their voices are heard.

We look forward to working together with the Learning Disability Partnership Board and its members on future projects and engagement opportunities across West Berkshire.

Priority 1: Making Sure People Get High‑Quality Support
We want everyone to get timely, helpful support that makes a real difference to their daily life

Priority 2: Helping Young People Move into Adult Life Smoothly
We will support young people and their families early so the move from Children’s Services to Adult Services is clear, calm, and well planned

Priority 3: Using Technology to Help People Live Independently
We will use simple, smart technology—like home sensors and digital tools—to help people stay safe and independent for longer

Priority 4: Working Better with Our Partners
We will join up our work with the NHS, voluntary groups, and others so people don’t have to repeat their story and can get more coordinated support

Priority 5: Providing the Right Support, in the Right Place, at the Right Time
We’ll make sure the services people need are available locally, modern, and suitable for different types of needs

Priority 6: Designing Services Together with Local People
We’ll listen to residents, carers and people with lived experience and work with them to shape future services

Healthwatch West Berkshire had the privilege of taking part in Dementia Action Week on 18th May at the Waterside Centre in Newbury.

It was a valuable opportunity to speak with members of the community, listen to people’s experiences, share information about local health and care services.

We would like to thank everybody who took the time to speak with us throughout the event, as well as the organisers and all participating organisations for helping create such a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.

Events like this are an important reminder of the value of community connection, understanding and ensuring that people affected by dementia feel heard and supported.
