Wildfires, including grass, moorland and countryside fires, can start easily and spread quickly, putting communities, wildlife and emergency services at risk.

At Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue, we know how devastating these incidents can be, especially during warmer, drier periods having supported Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service at a number of incidents with our Thermal Imaging Drones. Many wildfires are preventable, and small actions can make a big difference.

Sainsbury's is recalling Inspired to Cook by Sainsbury's Pitted Black Olives because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in the product.

The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product listed above.

Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

Sainsbury's is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the product.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes food poisoning. Foods like eggs, raw meat, undercooked chicken and unpasteurised milk can contain Salmonella.

Anybody can develop symptoms of Salmonella illness, but some people are more at risk of becoming severely unwell.

Who is more vulnerable?

- Pregnant women
- Young children
- Older people
- People with underlying health conditions (e.g. cancer, diabetes, liver or kidney disease)

Most eggs sold in UK supermarkets carry the British Lion mark, meaning they’re produced to standards that make them safe to eat even if the yolk is still runny or the egg isn’t fully cooked, including for vulnerable groups.

If you’re preparing eggs at home, check for the British Lion mark. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly after handling eggs or egg packaging.

When eating out, if you're more vulnerable to Salmonella illness, make sure any eggs you eat are fully cooked, as they may not be British Lion mark or Laid in Britain assured.

Could scanning a QR code lead to being scammed? ⚠️

Not always, but scammers are using QR codes in places you would usually trust to lead you to fake websites or apps.

Here's a few questions to ask yourself to stay protected against QR code scams ⤵️

- Who is it from? If the QR code is in a letter or email, is it something you were expecting to receive?

- If it's a public space like a car park, is it actually a sticker covering up something else?

- When you scan it, does the web address match the business you were expecting to see? And does it have a secure connection?

FAKE CALLS FROM YOUR BANK, THE POLICE or HMRC

A caller says they are from your bank’s fraud team, the police or HMRC. The voice sounds professional.

The number on your screen even matches the real organisation, because caller ID can be faked.

They say your account is at risk, and you must move your money to a ‘safe account’, or read out a code, right now.

Remember: safe accounts do not exist. No real bank or police officer will ever ask you to move money, and a caller knowing your details or ‘passing security’ proves nothing.

⏰ WHAT TO DO:
✅ Hang up.
✅ Wait a few minutes, then call back on a number you found yourself:
✅ dial 159 to be connected securely to your bank, ✅ 101 for the police,
✅ or use the number on an official letter.

The request to move money is itself the scam.
