⛔️ WARNING FOR ONLINE SHOPPERS ⛔️

Report Fraud is urging online shoppers to stay alert for unusual activity on their accounts following a rise in criminals gaining access to buy expensive goods.

In May, Report Fraud received 652 reports which mention Argos. Since the start of 2026, there have been 1,175 reports mentioning the retailer, with May seeing the highest number to date.

Argos is actively working with authorities and its customers to identify suspicious activity and strengthen safeguards.

Criminals are using login details obtained from data breaches to gain unauthorised access to retailer accounts.

This is possible due to the practice of reusing the same password across multiple online accounts. Once they have control of the account, criminals will place online orders and then collect the good in-person at a physical store. In some instances, the goods are paid for using payment details not connected to the victim of the compromised account.

If you have been a victim of fraud, you should tell Report Fraud by reporting it on the website at reportfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040. Or if you live in Scotland, call 101.

This week is Boat Fire Safety Week (25 to 31 May) and we're here to share some tips to help you stay safe onboard.

Alarms:
🔥Smoke alarms should be mounted on the deckhead (ceiling), 30cm from the cabin sides and within five metres of each protected area of the vessel. On some boats this will mean installing more than one alarm, and it is recommended to choose units that can be linked together.
🔥Install a suitable audible carbon monoxide alarm. Check that your CO alarm is suitable for marine use and meets the EN50291-2 standard.

Cooking and Heating:
🔥Spark devices are safer than matches or lighters to light gas cookers, because they don’t have a naked flame.
🔥Only use portable appliances onshore and don’t change gas canisters inside the cabin or covered areas.
🔥 Barbecues shouldn’t be used on boats – hot charcoal gives off dangerous amounts of CO and blown embers could set your boat alight.
🔥Keep cabin ventilation clear to prevent a build-up of toxic CO.
🔥Always ensure heater components are specifically marine grade and are supplied as intended to be fitted to the make and model of the heater in use.
