Two species of male mason bees (above Osmia caerluscens - blue mason - and below Osmia leaiana - orange-vented mason) posed for photos for Roy Lowry.

Notice the difference in the eyes (blue mason spotted, orange-vented mason black) and the more metallic head of the blue.

The orange-vented masons shared the rail around the brick pit with a number of five-spotted club-horned wasps that are a mason and leafcutter bee kleptoparasite.

It's Great Big Green Week.

Activities this Saturday at Birkenhead Central Library.

This Saturday (6th June) we will have a drop in craft activity for families at Birkenhead Central Library as part of the Great Big Green Week.

Join us 2-3pm where you can make a fabric flower, design a bookmark and plant your very own micro flower meadow in a pot🌻, whilst just using recyclable or recycled materials.

No need to book and on a first come first served basis until resources are used up ♻️

Also the wonderful Wirral Repair Cafe will on site 2-4pm- see below
"Come to Birkenhead Library to learn how to repair and recycle right during the Great Big Green Week!
Nicola will be showing visitors how to deal with stains and rips to clothing. Karen, an expert upholsterer, will be sharing her skills. Madeleine will teach how to darn holes in knitted clothes.
Rachel from Veolia's Gillmoss Recycling Discovery Centre will be there too to remind us what can be put in our grey recycling bins, now the rules have changed to include more items.
As usual, our repair team will be ready to fix a wide range of broken or non-functioning household goods, and hot drinks and homemade cake will be available in the café area - all free of charge"
