UPDATE — NARBERTH TOWN CLOCK CHIMES
Many residents have kindly been in touch asking about the current absence of the Town Hall clock chimes.
Narberth Town Council undertakes regular servicing and inspection of the Town Hall clock, with the most recent specialist service having taken place during late summer 2025, at which time no significant issues were identified or reported.
Following more recent investigations into the current fault, it now appears that, at some point between that service and the present day, jackdaws have breached the protective netting surrounding the bell tower area and extensively filled parts of the structure and mechanism area with nesting material and debris.
During specialist inspection works, a significant failure of the historic hammer mechanism operating the bell chimes was also identified. As many will appreciate, this is a specialist heritage repair involving an important historic feature within Narberth’s listed Town Hall building, and the restoration required is unfortunately more substantial than first anticipated.
The matter will be discussed further at the next Ordinary Meeting of Narberth Town Council on Tuesday 2nd June 2026, following which a further update will be provided.
The Town Council would like to thank residents for their patience and for the many messages expressing support and affection for the Town Hall clock and its chimes — it is very much appreciated.
