The Council is saddened to learn of the passing of former councillor John M. Flackett. John was well known throughout the village and, during his 15 years as a councillor, took an active role in many aspects of the Council’s work. He was instrumental in organising the village fête and was a core member of Willaston in Bloom.

In 2019, John was presented with an Award for Meritorious Service in recognition of his significant contribution to both the Council and the wider community.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. (CB)

💜Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. We remember all who suffered in the holocaust and in genocides.
📢 The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026, 'Bridging Generations', is a call-to-action. A reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn't end with the survivors - it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us.
🕯️ We encourage residents to join in the lighting of a candle at 8pm this evening in remembrance of all victims of the holocaust and genocides. (CB)

📍We’re making improvements to Peacock Roundabout on the A51 Nantwich Bypass

Work starts on Monday and is expected to last five weeks. It includes the installation of a new ‘toucan’ signal crossing, improved street lighting, a reduced speed limit on the approach to the roundabout, new signage and road markings and upgrades to the footway and cycleway.

To keep everyone safe, road closures will be needed during the works, with diversion routes clearly signed. Work will mainly take place off peak on weekdays between 9.30am and 3.30pm, with occasional weekend working, if needed. Motorists are encouraged to plan journeys ahead

The Council is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Councillor Frank Morton.

Born and raised in Willaston, Councillor Morton was widely respected by fellow Members and by residents throughout the community. This summer, Frank would have marked a milestone of 30 years of dedicated service as a Councillor, during which time he made a significant and lasting contribution to the community.

The Council’s thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. The Council flag on Mike Heywood Green has been lowered to half-mast in respect.

Families in Willaston experiencing financial hardship have received a welcome boost this Christmas thanks to the continued work of the Sarah Jane Wood Charity and Wybunbury United Charities.

Last week, a total of £600 was distributed to local families in need, helping to ease some of the financial pressures many face during the festive period. The charity, which has supported Willaston residents for nearly a century, continues its long-standing tradition of providing assistance at Christmas time.

The Sarah Jane Wood Charity was established in 1928 following a generous bequest and has since played an important role in supporting those in the historic Township of Willaston who are struggling financially. Administered by trustees appointed by Willaston Parish Council, the charity provides grants and gifts to residents facing hardship, particularly at Christmas.

Administrating Trustees, Councillor Craig Bailey and Honorary Freeman Keith Ward, said:
“The Charity Fund exists to support residents of Willaston who are experiencing financial hardship. Since 1928, the Sarah Jane Wood Charity has been providing gifts at Christmas, and we are fortunate to be able to continue this tradition. We hope that this support helps to ease the burden for some families who are struggling to make ends meet this Christmas.”

The trustees encourage residents who may be facing financial difficulties, or those who know someone who could benefit from the charity’s support, to find out more about the Sarah Jane Wood Charity and the Willaston Charity Fund via the Willaston Parish Council website.

The continued impact of the charity reflects the strength of community spirit in Willaston and the lasting legacy of Sarah Jane Wood’s generosity.
