📢 Village Verge Maintenance Update

Nafferton Parish Council would like to let residents know that we have parted company with our previous grass maintenance contractors as the standard of work was not meeting expectations.

We are pleased to confirm that village verges are now being cut by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Thank you to all residents for your patience and understanding while these arrangements have been put in place. We appreciate your support and are committed to keeping our village looking its best.

If you have any questions or wish to report any issues, please contact the Parish Clerk at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support. 🌿

Last night Cllr Owen and myself attended Nafferton Parish Council where Oliver Wild was re-elected as chair . Many congratulations to Oliver and the other parish councillors who take on different responsibilities to serve local residents.
It was great to see so much public participation and discussion of the following issues .
Vandalism....sadly this has raised it's ugly head but some of the culprits have been identified through cctv and have already had a visit from the police.
Potholes...we continue to work closely with the PC and particularly Mike Battams to get these issues sorted. Repairs are planned for Eastlands in the coming financial year but we are pushing for this to be completed as soon as possible.
Bonfires....two residents reported that there had been a number of bonfires during the day which led to some smoke pollution to local residents. Please remember that brown.bin collections are now weekly so this may be a more considerate way of dealing with garden waste .
Speeding....a resident commented on speeding through the village particularly on Nethergate,North Street ,New Road and Driffield Road . Parish and ward councillors are looking into ways to mitigate this including ANPR cameras and a speed limit review.
New housing development on Markman Lane...although an application is yet to be submitted potential problems were discussed and councillors are looking to meet with developers to discuss resident's concerns.
The next meeting is on Tuesday 9th June at 7pm .
Public participation is welcomed and encouraged so please pop along if you can.

Thank you to everyone who has emailed with areas of grass cutting that have been missed.

One of our volunteers will be out on the mower this afternoon (weather permitting 🌦️) to tidy up a few areas, and the contractors will be back in the village next week.

If you notice any other spots that have been missed, or have any comments, please email: [email protected]

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

We are sorry to report that the swan that normally resides on Nafferton Mere has died.
The body has been found in the water at the beck and DEFRA have been informed.
It should be removed by DEFRA within 48 hrs.
It's not a pleasant sight so might be worth taking an alternative route for a few days if you normally walk that way.
