Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team Available 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. The team is skilled in the rescue, treatment and evacuation of casualties. Saving lives in wild and remote places

It costs over £40,000 a year to keep us on our feet (and wheels). Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team is an entirely charitable organisation - we receive no direct funding from the Government to provide our vital service and all of the team members are unpaid volunteers. All donations go towards our running costs, maintaining our base, equipment and vehicles or the purchase of equipment. How can

you help?
• You could make a contribution to our running costs
• Donate your own professional skills
• Help out with fundraising or at one of our events
• Join our training sessions as a casualty
• Join our Support Group

Callouts

Harden and Bingley 24/08/26, 16:32 & 17:37

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to assist with a mountain biker who had collided with a tree, sustaining an injury to their lower leg.

Team members worked alongside the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and ambulance crews to deliver care on scene before the casualty was transferred to hospital.

While this incident was ongoing, a second call came in for a walker with an ankle injury following a slip.

Fortunately, both incidents occurred within the same general area, allowing several CVSRT members to be re-tasked to assist HART personnel with transporting the second patient to the awaiting ambulance.

A busy few hours for the team and some great team work with the statutory emergency services to ensure both casualties received timely care.

Thank you to Hargreaves Foundry

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team would like to express our thanks to Hargreaves Foundry for choosing us as one of the charities supported during their 150th anniversary celebrations.

Their initiative, inviting every employee to nominate a local cause for a £150 donation, is a thoughtful way to honour the company’s long history while investing directly in the Calderdale community.

We’re especially grateful to Steve Rollins for nominating CVSRT. His support helps our volunteer team continue delivering life‑saving search and rescue cover across the Calder Valley, maintain essential equipment, and provide ongoing training to keep our community safe.

Thank you once again for including us in your anniversary celebrations and for helping strengthen the work we do.

Cake Galore!

A huge thank you to two brilliant community fundraisers! Recently, we have seen not one but two fantastic bake‑sale efforts supporting the Team and we’re so grateful for everyone involved.

EweMove Estate Agents in Hebden Bridge & Sowerby Bridge hosted a lovely bake sale in Mytholmroyd, raising £86. Thank you to the whole Ewemove team for your energy, kindness and community spirit.

Peter Erdhart (Former Team Member) and his family ran a refreshment stall on the Todmorden Boundary Walk, raising £60. It’s always special when past team members continue to support the work we do, and we’re incredibly thankful for their time and generosity.

Every cake baked, every brew poured, and every pound raised helps us stay equipped, trained and ready to respond when our community needs us most.

Thank you all, your support makes a real difference.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were honoured to welcome Don Akrigg to our base during our Open Day earlier this summer.

The team was formed in 1966 as the Calder Valley Moorland Rescue Association, following the tragic loss of Don’s father, Robert Akrigg, a reservoir keeper who went missing in the blizzards of November 1965 and was not found until February 1966.

His story is a significant part of our history and the reason our team exists today.

As we celebrate our 60th year, Don kindly agreed to allow us to name our newest vehicle in memory of his father. Surrounded by family, friends, members of the public and invited guests, Don unveiled the commemorative wording on Calder Mobile 2, following a short speech from Team Leader Rob Freeman.

We would also like to thank Pennine Signs Ltd, Mytholmroyd, for creating the artwork and donating the signage for this important occasion. https://penninesigns.co.uk/

Norland Moor, 12:27, 18,08,2026

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) for assistance with a casualty who had been trodden on by the horse they were leading on Norland Moor.

The initial call was made by a member of the public who was with the casualty at the scene. During the call, the caller advised YAS that Mountain Rescue assistance was likely to be required immediately due to the casualty's location and the significant distance from the nearest road access point.

On arrival at the scene, the casualty was found to have sustained an injury to the lower leg. The casualty's leg was immobilised before they were packaged onto the stretcher for transportation off the Moor, to the waiting ambulance.

Luddenden Mayor's Day & Village fete.
Saturday 12th September, 1-3:30pm fete, 4pm Mayor Making followed by evening music festival.

Mayor’s Day has been part of Luddenden’s story for well over a century. What began as a small village celebration to mark the appointment of the Mayor has grown into a much‑loved annual tradition, a day that brings the community together with music, food, games, and the famous duck race. It’s one of those events that reminds everyone why the valley is such a special place.

This year, we’re honoured that Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team (CVSRT) has been chosen as a charity supported through the event.

Join us on Saturday 12th September in the beautiful grounds of St Mary’s Church for live music, food and drink, face painting, candyfloss, the duck race, raffle, charity auction, and plenty of entertainment for all ages.

Free entry. Everyone welcome.

Thank you to the Luddenden Mayor’s Group for choosing to support CVSRT, and thank you to everyone who helps keep our team operational through your generosity.
