Newhailes House & Gardens NTS 17th century villa set within an 86 acre estate on the edge of Edinburgh. Newhailes is a beautiful 17th century villa in the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Historic house, Weehailes playpark, woodland walks, ice cream and traditional sweet shop and new courtyard cafe and a wide range of events make for a great day out. It was the home of the Dalrymple family for more than 300 years, and has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland since 1997. The house and the wider estate tell the fascinating story of 300 years of history, touching upon t

he minutiae of family life as well as major international events. The house is open to the public, and guided tours can be booked online at www.nts.org.uk/Newhailes
The Newhailes Stables have recently undergone a major regeneration project; converting the old dairy into an amazing new takeaway coffee and ice cream shop, and the stables into a brand new cafe and a beautiful admissions space! We also have a monthly market within our courtyard, the third weekend of every month.

🌞 The weather was bright (if a little windy 💨), but that didn’t stop lots of people from coming along, finding some great bargains 🏺🕰️👗, and enjoying the day.

😊 We loved welcoming everyone and seeing the market buzzing with activity. Thank you to everyone who supported us, whether you traded, shopped, or simply stopped by to say hello. 👋

Celebrating our growing and wonderfully wacky flock 🐦

We spend a lot of time trying to fit people into neat little pigeonholes.

But have you ever met a pigeon?

They're weird. They're scruffy. They're surprisingly clever. They strut around like they own the place, make questionable life choices, and somehow thrive anyway.

Maybe the lesson isn't to squeeze everyone into a pigeonhole. Maybe it's to embrace our inner pigeon.

Some of us are colorful. Some of us are awkward. Some of us take unconventional flight paths. Some of us spend way too much time pecking at things nobody else understands.

That's okay.

The world would be pretty boring if every bird looked, acted, and thought exactly the same. The things that make us different—the quirks, oddities, passions, and peculiar perspectives—are often the things that make us interesting.

So here's to the pigeons. The square pegs. The odd ducks. The people who don't fit neatly into anyone's pigeonhole.

Keep being gloriously, unapologetically you.

Be among the first to see a fascinating part of the Centenary Garden take shape with this special behind-the-scenes experience at Newhailes.

For a small donation, join us for an exclusive 30-minute session with the award-winning team at Harris Bugg Studio and discover how overlooked historic materials are being transformed into something extraordinary.

At the heart of this experience is the prototype *Artefact Wall* — created using historic stone and materials carefully retained on site and approved for reuse. Designed to celebrate, rather than reshape, these historic fragments, the wall combines traditional stonemasonry with contemporary garden design to reveal the beauty and stories already embedded within Newhailes.

You’ll hear directly from the designers about the vision for the Centenary Garden and meet the talented young stonemasons and craftspeople bringing it to life — the same team behind the stonework featured in the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 Best in Show and Gold Medal-winning garden.
