17th century villa set within an 86 acre estate on the edge of Edinburgh. Newhailes is a beautiful 17th century villa in the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Historic house, Weehailes playpark, woodland walks, ice cream and traditional sweet shop and new courtyard cafe and a wide range of events make for a great day out. It was the home of the Dalrymple family for more than 300 years, and has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland since 1997. The house and the wider estate tell the fascinating story of 300 years of history, touching upon the minutiae of family life as well as major international events. The house is open to the public, and guided tours can be booked online at www.nts.org.uk/Newhailes
The Newhailes Stables have recently undergone a major regeneration project; converting the old dairy into an amazing new takeaway coffee and ice cream shop, and the stables into a brand new cafe and a beautiful admissions space! We also have a monthly market within our courtyard, the third weekend of every month.

🚗✨ What a fantastic day we had today at Carhailes! ✨🚗

From beginning to end, it was packed with everything you could want from a brilliant family day out, fantastic cars and vehicles, great people, plenty of fun and, most importantly, lots of wonderful memories. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to see the cars, all our fantastic exhibitors, our amazing volunteers, and everyone who helped make the day so special.

We couldn’t have done it without you! 🥰

We’ve already got our eyes on next year… and we can’t wait to see you all again! 🚗💨

Only 2 days to go!

This Sunday at Carhailes, Taylor’s Funfair will be joining us with their brilliant bumper inflatables and our little ones courtyard ride on derby track is also back.

Happy Hoofbeats will also be with us in case you less of a petrol head and enjoy a different sort of horse power!

Come along, jump on a bike and have a go — completely FREE!

We’re getting ready to welcome you all this Sunday 13 September for Carhailes 2026.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed the £1 voluntary donation to attend Carhailes. 💜
