UPDATE | The search of the River Teifi in Cardigan has been stood down for the night.
Officers, along with colleagues from HM Coastguard, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been at the river since a report was made that a man had entered the water at around 5.15am.
Despite searching the area on foot, by boat, helicopter and drone, the man has not been located.
The operation will resume in the morning.
We’d like to thank those who have helped through the day, and ask that members of the public now stay away from the area – particularly the river banks – for their own safety.

We’d like to remind everyone that flares should only be used in genuine distress situations. They shouldn’t be used for entertainment or as fireworks during celebrations.

If we receive an alert at or near the coast where a flare has been launched, we will always respond and won’t know the difference if you are using them as fireworks. This can tie up resources when they're not needed, putting our coastguard rescue teams at unnecessary risk and potentially diverting them from a legitimate emergency.

If you think someone could be in trouble at the coast, always call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Visitors to the south-west coast are being advised to take extra care this week as strong swells are forecast to affect parts of the coast of Cornwall, Devon and south Wales.

Storms in the Atlantic and spring tides are likely to combine to generate large waves as well as higher than usual water levels from late Monday afternoon (25 August) into Wednesday (27 August).

Strong waves and currents could lead to people being swept out. Tides will also reach higher with the chance of people being cut off.

Follow our simple guidance to ensure you have a fun day and come home safe:

• Visit a lifeguarded beach where possible 🏖️
• Pay attention to flags on the beach 🚩
• Check the tide times and conditions 🌊
• Carry a charged-up mobile phone 📱

Team paged with HM Coastguard - Moylegrove to locate 2 missing persons.
Both teams arrived in Newport quickly with information coming in that the walkers had been located by a family member. With checks done to confirm that the walkers were both fit and well and safely on the way home both teams were stood down.
