My name is Edward Brown, and I’m proud to be one of your two Labour candidates in the upcoming election for Leeds City Council. Like you, I am well aware of the incredible potential we have in Morley, Drighlington, Gildersome and Churwell. I want to make sure our community finally gets the attention and support it truly deserves.

I want to ensure that the needs and concerns of Morley North residents are at the heart of everything I do. I believe in a community where everyone can thrive, where families have access to affordable housing, where our streets feel safe, and where local businesses are given the resources to grow. Together, we can make Morley an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

These are my key pledges for change:

Cleaning Up Our Streets:

One of the first things I hear from local residents is the need for cleaner streets. Whether it’s littering, overgrown green spaces, or neglected public areas, we all deserve a cleaner and more attractive environment. I’ll work with the local council to ensure regular street cleaning, better waste management, and more community-led initiatives to keep Morley looking its best. A cleaner, greener environment will make our area more welcoming and improve the quality of life for everyone.

Fixing Our Roads:
Our roads and infrastructure are in urgent need of repair. Potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate pedestrian crossings are causing frustration for drivers and pedestrians alike. I’m committed to pushing for better investment in road maintenance and upgrades to ensure safer, smoother journeys for everyone. I’ll advocate for quicker responses to road repairs and better planning to prevent these issues in the future. Whether it’s major roads or smaller residential streets, fixing our roads is essential for keeping Morley North moving.

Improved Public Transport & Rural Connectivity:

Access to public transport is a necessity for many. While many of us rely on buses and trains, the current services just aren’t enough. I’m committed to improving our local bus routes, ensuring they’re more frequent, and making sure they connect all areas of Morley, Churwell, Drighlington and Gildersome, including the rural communities that often feel left behind. By expanding services to rural areas and ensuring affordable, reliable transport for all, I’ll help ensure that no one is isolated or struggles to get around. Better transport will create stronger links within our community and make it easier for everyone to access work, education, and leisure activities.

I believe in the incredible potential we have when we work together, and I know we can overcome any challenge that comes our way. But I need your support to do it.

Together, We Can Make Change Happen

I want to hear from you – what matters to YOU in Morley, Gildersome, Drighlignton or Churwell? What changes would you like to see? Drop a comment below or reach out to me directly at [email protected]! Together, we can create a future that works for everyone in our community.

Hello, I’m Jonny Kelsey, and I’m standing as the candidate for Morley North on behalf of the Labour Party.
Local politics isn’t about promising the impossible. It’s about persistence, partnership, and standing up for the community in every discussion and every decision.

Concerns I hear are often the practical, day-to-day local issues that make a real difference to residents’ quality of life. Pavements that are hard to walk on, potholes on residential streets, drainage problems after heavy rain, the need for regular buses services connecting our villages, and the green spaces that need care and attention that give our area its unique character.

I hear from older residents who feel increasingly isolated as services move online or further away, and from many who feel that our villages can sometimes be “out of sight, out of mind”.

Like my Labour colleague Adrian Blake standing for Morley South, I would join him in maximising our ward’s access to the Local Power Plan, to obtain grants and funding for council, or local co-operative owned solar power on council or community owned buildings to help lower commercial energy bills.

These are exactly the kinds of issues a Councillor can make progress on by being visible, by listening, and working with the Local Authority to get things done.

As your Labour candidate for Morley North, I want to be a visible, present Councillor who listens, follows up, and works closely with the Leeds Labour Council, West Yorkshire Police, parish councils and our Labour MP and local lad Mark Sewards to make sure every part of our ward gets fair attention, real action and is never treated as an afterthought.

For me, this is about making sure people can see their council and Councillors in action working to deliver for all residents in all parts of our ward. The election is 7th May and please remember to bring your ID to vote!

I extended a very busy Morley surgery to 3 hours to accommodate everyone who attended today, thank you so much for your patience.

Followed up with a terrific visit to the St George's Day traditional street market organised by the wonderful Michelle Carter alongside Morley Town Council.

Big thanks to the team at The Morley Shed for this bowl made with ancient wood!

Hello, I’m Adrian Blake, and I’m standing as the candidate for Morley South on behalf of Labour and Co-operative.

Morley is such an incredibly special and unique town, and I’m so lucky to be raising my family amongst the wonderful Morley community. There's much to be proud of here, but there's also a lot we can do to improve things.

I’m not the type of candidate to promise easy solutions, or to claim I can do things outside the remit of a councillor. I know the strain and restraints that councils are operating under. Our councillors are not sat in front of a big “More funding” or “Fix all the potholes” button, that they are too lazy to press. The hardest duty of a councillor is to decide the best use of limited resource. That said, the reason I’m running is that there are changes I can make. As your Labour and Co-operative councillor, I’d be working closely with the Leeds Labour Council to guide and drive real changes we need here in Morley.

🔴 I’d resist the short-term minded sales of our public assets, so that future generations can enjoy them.

🔴 I’d encourage and maximise Morley’s access to the Local Power Plan, to get grants and funding for council, or local co-operative owned solar power on council or community owned buildings to benefit our community.

🔴 I’d cooperate with the local police to see what help they need from the council to best tackle, deter and dampen the effects of anti-social behaviour.

🔴 I'd push to make sure that people start to actually see their council tax in action. That means potholes, that means bin collections. Most council funding is mandated for spend on vital but often invisible services such as social care, whilst visible services have degraded. So, whilst I’ll obviously be pushing for our fair share of any funding, this is going to mainly come down to chasing council services for constituents, and pushing for new, more efficient ways to do things than we already are.

I work as an optimisation consultant, primarily for waste management, which means I use data and modelling to help councils across the UK do more with what limited resources they have. As your councillor, I'd be fighting in every discussion and decision to ensure Leeds gives Morley its fair share, and then I'd ensure that we get the most out of that resource that we can.

The election is May 7th, remember to bring your ID. I’d love it if you could vote for me so that I can fight for you in Leeds, but whoever you vote for, let’s keep making Morley the charming, special and unique community we love.
