Abbey Farm and gardens form part of an ancient monastic estate nestling under St Michael’s Hill in Montacute. The three acres of garden are mainly walled and provide the backdrop for the Cluniac gatehouse. The large lawns are enhanced by herbaceous borders and lead up the sloping site that has been terraced. As you weave your way up the garden there is a fine mulberry tree and a statuesque monkey

puzzle, forming a canopy at the end of the exuberantly planted gravel garden. A small white garden is tucked away amongst the formal beech hedging that borders the tennis court. The garden culminates in an arboretum and a more natural environment looking down across the valley. The garden is planted with many unusual trees and shrubs and some new exciting planting will be taking shape over the coming months.

Creating the hibernaculum for the SW Rivers Authority has been a big family project over Christmas. Using logs and brash from alders we carefully constructed an over wintering home for animals. The dual purpose construction has also helped to shore up the steep banks of the stream that were gradually collapsing. 🦇🪱🐸🦎

We will have more of our 100% pasture fed Red Devon beef for sale early September . Do get in touch if you would like to order any boxes etc. These come in 6kg, 9kg or 13kg sizes and include various roasting joints, steak, aged mince and stewing beef.
