What are you up to this weekend?

While most people were settling into a normal weekend, the Sappers from 100 Field Squadron were down in Swansea sharpening their Close Quarter Battle (CQB) skills inside a purpose-built training facility.

Throughout last weekend, personnel worked through a series of demanding CQB scenarios.

Learning how to safely observe, enter, clear, and when required fight through confined spaces as a team. The training focused on communication, drills, movement, and decision-making under pressure, building confidence and capability in a challenging environment.

The regiment give a massive thanks to CSgt R and the 3 Royal Welsh for allowing the Squadron to use their facilities and for the superb instruction delivered to our Sappers across the weekend.

The Army Reserve offers opportunities that go far beyond the everyday, developing skills, teamwork, confidence, and challenge alongside your civilian life.

Jersey Field Squadron celebrate liberation weekend in style

Jersey Field Squadron marked this year’s Liberation Weekend in style, with personnel coming together to support and celebrate an event that remains hugely important to the island and its community.

Supporting the weekend were soldiers from 108 (Welsh) Field Squadron, who travelled across to join Jersey Field Squadron for the celebrations and wider activity across the island.

The weekend provided a fantastic opportunity to strengthen links across the Regiment, represent the Army Reserve within the local community, and take part in an occasion filled with pride, heritage, and tradition.

From ceremonial activity to time spent engaging with the public and veterans, the weekend reflected the strong connection between Jersey Field Squadron and the island it proudly represents and supports.

A fantastic effort from all involved and a great example of the Regiment coming together to support one another.

Regimental Training Weekend One | RTW1

The Regiment recently delivered RTW1, bringing personnel from all Squadrons together for a focused weekend of training and development in Vauxhall Camp.

Across the training weekend, our Sappers carried out a range of activity including artisan engineering tasks around camp, green physical training and an SCA, alongside wider professional development through briefings.

The weekend also supported ongoing delivery of Op TEAMWORK, as well as reinforcing skills, fitness, and understanding across the Regiment.

Training weekends like this build capability at every level. Combining practical skills, physical readiness, and professional knowledge to ensure the Regiment remains prepared for what comes next.

108 (Welsh) Field Squadron | From Graft to Recognition

Soldiers from 108 (Welsh) Field Squadron recently completed a demanding training weekend at Caerwent Training Area.

Using the Engineer Combat Power Tool Kit, personnel dismantled steel cages and transported them back to Swansea.

This type of task was one that required teamwork, effort, and practical engineering skills delivered through a full day of hard graft.

The weekend concluded with the Squadron’s John Chard VC Dinner Night, bringing together all ranks and guests for a well-earned opportunity to recognise the efforts of the past year.

Congratulations to Cpl R, who was awarded the inaugural Chard Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to 108 (Welsh) Field Squadron.

Training, teamwork, and recognition. All part of what builds a strong Squadron.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Today, the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) proudly marks St David’s Day.

Celebrating the heritage, resilience, and enduring spirit of Wales.

As a Regiment with deep Welsh roots, we recognise the values that St David’s Day represents: commitment, humility, and the strength found in collective effort.

His words, “Gwnewch y pethau bychain” / “Do the little things” remain as relevant today as ever.

In training, on exercise, and in service alongside civilian life, it is often the small actions done consistently and to a high standard that build capability and trust over time.

To our soldiers, families, veterans, and supporters across Wales and beyond we wish you a proud and meaningful St David’s Day.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus i bawb.

108 (Welsh) Field Squadron | Training in Low Light

Personnel from 108 (Welsh) Field Squadron, based in Swansea, recently conducted focused training on the LUCIE night vision goggles and Laser Light Module (LLM) at their indoor training range.

Operating effectively in limited visibility is a critical skill. The session gave soldiers the opportunity to familiarise themselves with night observation equipment, understand light discipline, and practise target acquisition and engagement techniques in a controlled environment.

Training like this ensures that capability is developed progressively and safely, reinforcing the standards required to operate confidently in all conditions, day or night.

❄️ From the Slopes to the Ice Track

With the spotlight on the Winter Olympics, the world is watching athletes push the limits of speed, skill, and courage in some of the toughest environments on earth.

In the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia), that mindset isn’t unfamiliar.

Army Reserve service opens the door to winter Adventure Training and sport that goes far beyond routine. From alpine skiing and snowboarding to ski touring and mountain development, our soldiers challenge themselves in demanding conditions that build resilience, confidence, and teamwork.

In recent years, thanks to opportunities through Army Sport, members of the Regiment have also taken on high adrenaline winter disciplines including skeleton, luge, and bobsleigh to name a few.

Pushing speed, control, and nerve to the absolute limit on the ice.

These aren’t just experiences, they’re opportunities to grow, test yourself, and develop skills that carry back into training and operational environments..

While the world watches the Winter Olympics, our Sappers continue to challenge themselves in the mountains and on the ice.

Opportunity here isn’t seasonal.

It’s year-round.

Two Royals. One Regiment.

The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) holds a distinction that is unique within the British Army and that is to have two “Royals” in its title.

This rare honour reflects the Regiment’s long and distinguished history of service.

The first “Royal” was granted in 1804, recognising the Regiment’s early and continued service to the Crown.

The second followed in 1896 upon being re designated the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) , further acknowledging the loyalty, professionalism, and reputation the Regiment had earned over decades of service.

Today, every soldier and officer who wears the cap badge does so as part of that legacy.

While the Regiment continues to train and operate to modern standards, it does so grounded in a history that sets it apart.

Proud of our past, committed in the present, and ready for the future.

A unique distinction. A shared responsibility. One Regiment.

Ready When It Matters

Personnel from across the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) came together last weekend for a focused and demanding training weekend, reinforcing both technical competence and physical readiness.

Training across the weekend included bridge building familiarisation, allowing our Sappers to practise and refine core Royal Engineer skills while operating collectively as a Regiment.

Alongside this, personnel completed the Role Fitness Test (RFT), maintaining the high physical standards required to operate effectively in challenging environments.

Weekends like this demonstrate what underpins the Regiment’s capability. Professional reserve soldiers and officers, strong teamwork, and a shared commitment to being ready when it matters.

Each training period builds confidence, cohesion, and the ability to deliver safely and effectively whenever called upon.
