🛠️ Repair Café – Tomorrow at the Town Hall, 10am – 12 noon♻️

Got something broken? Don’t bin it – bring it!

Join us tomorrow at the Town Hall for our Repair Café, where a team of skilled volunteers will be on hand to help you fix a wide range of household items — all for free! 🔧

What is a Repair Café?

It’s a friendly community event where you can bring your broken or worn-out items and get help repairing them, instead of throwing them away. It’s all about reducing waste, saving money and learning useful skills — all in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Here’s what we can help with:

🚲 Bike repairs– Bring your child’s bike (even if you think it’s beyond saving!) or your own. Our bike repair volunteers love giving bikes a second life — great for the planet, your wallet and your health!

🧵 Sewing repairs – Clothes, cushions, curtains and other household textiles. Don’t give up on a favourite item just because of a rip or missing button.

🔧 Electricals & DIY– From broken ornaments to home appliances, garden tools, clocks, power tools and general DIY items — if it’s fixable, we’ll try!

🔪🌿 Knife & Garden Tool Sharpening – Bring along your blunt kitchen knives and garden tools and our volunteers can help sharpen them and give them a new lease of life!

☕ Plus – enjoy a free cuppa! While you wait for your item to be repaired, pop into our Community Coffee Morning for a warm drink and a friendly chat.

Don’t throw it out before letting us take a look! ♻️

Repairing instead of replacing helps the environment, reduces landfill waste and saves you money — all while building community spirit.

📍 See you tomorrow at Flint Town Hall, 10am – 12 noon 🛠️♻️

Thank you to everyone who came to the preloved school uniform events last week and tonight. The feedback was very positive.

Argoed Community Council is pleased to promote this eco-friendly and budget-friendly alternative to buying new school uniforms and is happy to facilitate this in conjunction with Caffi Isa Arts & Community Centre and New Brighton Community Centre - Flintshire.

We are hoping to provide events on a termly basis, however we need to encourage parents and carers to donate uniform that no longer fits or is not needed. This can be done throughout the school year.

Thank you

Revised time: preloved uniform event is 7:30 to 8:30pm at Caffi Isa tonight.

Litter Picking Hub

One of the areas the Community Council is looking into is the practicalities of supporting anyone who wants to get involved in keeping our ward tidy. We already have a resident who actively collects litter on Bryn Road in Bryn-y-Baal and we are very grateful for this.

Argoed Community Council could establish a Litter Picking Hub with Keep Wales Tidy and we would receive a kit from them which woukd include litter pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags and hoops to keep the bag open.

We could then arrange periodic litter picks and it also enables anyone to borrow the equipment, including Councillors, residents, community groups, football clubs, Scouts, young people and the schools.

All borrowers will be provided with health and safety guidance and have to fill out a quick risk assessment and sign a litter picking loan agreement. You then must return loaned items by the agreed date in their original condition.

This is a very positive way of making a difference to our community so please let us know what you think.

Thanks
