9 year old sunflower seeds came good!

I'll be saving some of the seeds for 2035 - and giving some packets to Moffat Seed Library too!

I love my fruits!

This morning's developing crops in our 'normal' Timbertunnel. Yes, just one peach, but I only planted the peach tree last year, so I shouldn't really even have left that one to develop.

The tomatoes are beefsteak - Brandywine, meant to be the best variety.

And that cucumber! It's going to be another tzatziki every day year....

This is the globe artichoke we didn't eat.

The first one went to Cat as a gift. She very kindly spent an inordinate amount of time preparing it, only to discover the artichoke heart was... pretty wee (see 2nd pic).

So this one has been reprieved because I do not have the patience of a saint.

To be honest, I think it's found its true calling. It's one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous flowers I've grown, the insects can't get enough of it, and unlike us, they don't seem remotely bothered that it doesn't quite live up to its promise in the kitchen.

Later in the year I'll save the seed, so with a bit of luck there'll be plenty to share through Moffat Seed Library next season...
..just in case anyone else fancies investing several months of growing time and an inordinate amount of preparation for approximately two mouthfuls. πŸ˜„

At this time of year, there's an invasion of these wee guys, heading to our pond Sometimes getting stuck behind a hen house, sometime's trying to get there through our house. Once in the pond, the water comes alive with noise and movement and then just like that, it's all over for another year.

A Plague of frogs? No way! They help keep our abundant slug population a little more under control and are great to have around the smallholding.

White is the colour of February, of the ewe's milk that gave Imbolc its name, of late winter snows and swathes of snowdrops

So before we head towards the yellows of early spring, here are some touches of white from this morning's walk with the wheelie bin.

It's been awfae quiet on here - what were we thinking?

Here, to prove we're back and still paying attention, is a photo of our Witch Hazel from this morning. Deliciously fragrant, even if you do have to bend down a long way because it's so wee!
