It’s that time of year again — we’re getting ready for the Summer Reading Challenge!

Our theme this year is “Just Read!”, celebrating 2026 as the National Year of Reading.
It’s also especially fitting as we celebrate 25 years of the Summer Reading Challenge in Aberdeenshire Libraries.

Whether you love adventure, mystery, magic, or something totally new, this year is all about discovering the joy of reading in your own way.

Join our Local Studies Team at our Local Studies Centre in Oldmeldrum on the 12th May, 10am to 1pm for a friendly, practical workshop designed to give you the skills and confidence to get started.

You will learn how to:
- Explore archives and historical resources
- Research local people, places, and stories
- Take your first steps into local history with confidence

All participants will receive a handy booklet of support resources to help you continue your research at home.

Join Wilfred, Mr Apple, and the other mice of Bramley Hedge as they welcome the new season and prepare a special surprise picnic for their friends and family.

After enjoying the story together, you’ll get the chance to make your very own felt mouse decoration to take home as a memento of your visit.

This event is suitable for ages 5-10 years.
