🚧 SOMERSET COUNCIL HIGHWAY WORKS UPDATE: THE AVENUE, MINEHEAD 🚧

The following information has been provided by Somerset Council and is being shared by Minehead Town Council on their behalf to help keep residents and businesses informed.

📍 Location The Avenue, Minehead, between the Esplanade junction and Blenheim Road junction.

📅 Dates Monday 28 September 2026 to Tuesday 13 October 2026

⏰ Working Hours Works will take place Monday to Thursday evenings, between 6:30pm and 11:30pm.

🛣️ Nature of the Works Somerset Council will be carrying out preparation works and carriageway resurfacing along this section of highway.

🚫 Road Closure To enable the works to be undertaken safely, The Avenue will be closed to through traffic between the Esplanade and Blenheim Road junctions during working hours. Signed diversion routes will be in place.

🍽️ Weekend Stand-Down To minimise disruption, Somerset Council has advised that there will be no works on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings during the programme.

⚠️ Please Note Somerset Council has advised that every effort will be made to complete the works within, or ahead of, the planned programme. However, the schedule may be subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

📣Calling all Minehead Residents!!

We are so excited to be hosting our very own Macmillan Coffee Morning on the 12th September 11am - 2pm, where you can explore our services and find out how we support our local communities!

Come along to chat all things health and wellbeing including: Women's Health, Nutrition, Living Better and why it's important to Know Your Numbers! 👩🏽‍⚕️

We'll being having a colouring competition for the little ones and the winner will be displayed on our surgery! ✏
And of course, we will be eating some lovely cakes that will be provided by the wonderful Foxes Academy!

📸🌞 SUMMER HOLIDAY PHOTO CHALLENGE - THE FINAL ANSWER! 🌞📸

Well, that's a wrap on our Summer Holiday Photo Challenge! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who took part over the past few weeks. We've loved seeing your guesses, local knowledge and enthusiasm for some of Minehead's most recognisable, and sometimes not-so-recognisable, landmarks! 👏

The answer to our final challenge was, of course...

⭐ The Minehead War Memorial ⭐

Standing proudly at the top of Martlet Road, the memorial serves as a lasting tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their country and remains one of Minehead's most important landmarks. It also offers one of the most beautiful views across our town, with sweeping vistas that remind us just how special Minehead is. 🌊🏘️💙

From the Cake Stand in Wellington Square, to the stag at Ellicombe, the tall trees at the top of West Street, the cobbled bridge at Parks Walk, Queen Anne and the start of the South West Coast Path, we've certainly taken a tour of our wonderful town this summer. 🌳🏖️👑🥾

Thank you once again to everyone who joined in. We hope you've enjoyed rediscovering some of the places, landmarks and hidden gems that make Minehead such a special place.

Who knows... perhaps the challenge will return next summer! 👀☀️

📸🌞 SUMMER HOLIDAY PHOTO CHALLENGE - WEEK 7! 🌞📸

We've reached the final week of our Summer Holiday Photo Challenge! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in last week's challenge. The answer was, of course, the hands marking the start of the South West Coast Path here in Minehead. 🥾🌊

💡 Fun Fact: The South West Coast Path is England's longest National Trail, stretching an incredible 630 miles from Minehead all the way around the coasts of Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset to Poole Harbour!
