An interesting topic cropping up among our sleep practitioners at the moment is the use of the BIG light and children that can't sleep without it. Does your child need the big light on? Here are some of the reasons why this is an issue:

When kids sleep with a big light on, it can affect their natural sleep rhythms. Exposure to too much light can:
๐Ÿ”น Reduce melatonin production - the sleepy hormone! Less melatonin means more restless nights.
๐Ÿ”น Lower sleep quality: Bright lights can cause frequent awakenings, making kids feel tired the next day.
๐Ÿ”น Impact growth and development: Quality sleep is essential for cognitive, emotional, and physical growth.

The reasons for needing the big light is often down to fear - having a calming bedtime routine can help to reduce stress and anxiety and make sleep easier to come by. Or you could try dim nightlights instead, or keep lights on in the hallway if they feel nervous.

If you've tried everything, then we have a National Sleep Helpline where you can talk to trained practitioners about your child's sleep issues. 03303 530 541

Itโ€™s the season of pumpkins, woolly hats and warm fires! But remember to take your babyโ€™s outdoor clothes off once you get inside. Wearing a hat or coat inside, even on a cold day, could make your little one overheat.

Follow us for more safer sleep advice, and share this post far and wide so that together, we can keep babies safe ๐Ÿ’›.

Abuse isnโ€™t just physicalโ€”it often begins with subtle forms of control, manipulation, and isolation. Coercive control can be just as damaging, creating fear and dependency thatโ€™s hard to break free from.
