Milton Keynes Hospital occupies a 60-hectare site to the south of the city centre. We are a medium sized district general hospital, serving Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. The hospital has approximately 400 inpatient beds, and provides a broad range of general medical and surgical services. We have a busy A&E Department that manages all medical, surgical and child health emergency admissions. In addition to providing general acute services, Milton Keynes Hospital increasingly provides more specialist services, including cancer care, cardiology and oral surgery. We have responsibility for treating premature babies born locally. Some of the babies we treat are born as early as 24 weeks old (16 weeks early), and weigh as little as 500 grams. Some quick facts:

the Trust employs 3,000 staff
we have beds for 400 patients
70,000 people come to Accident and Emergency every year
we treat 20,000 elective patients, 200,000 outpatients, and deliver over 4,000 babies every year.

We’re making great progress on our two new operating theatres at MKUH.

The new building has now been handed over by our contractors, and over the coming weeks we’ll be preparing the space ready for patients. These additional theatres will strengthen our existing elective care facilities and support us in meeting the needs of our growing local community.

This work is part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a hospital fit for the future.

. Today marks the International Day of Play. Our Paediatric Play Team of four works 365 days a year improving the health and wellbeing of children in the hospital. They support children and young people of all ages with therapeutic and normalising play, helping them to understand the procedures and treatments they need. Play resources are supported by generous donors and the team have their own wish list.

What started as a casual get-together after work has grown into a fun and positive activity for our netball team - the MK Angels - whose members come from all areas of the hospital, including nursing, radiology, physiotherapy, dietetics, cancer services and research. The team has become a much-loved way for colleagues to switch off, stay active and create new friendships. They’re even flying high at the top of their league!

It was the TeamMKUH awards last night at Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland , and our chance to celebrate the extraordinary dedication, compassion and teamwork that happens across our trust every day. Congratulations to all of our winners, runners up and those shortlisted. A huge thank you to our generous sponsors - Manor Interior Solutions, Amber Windows, ARUP, Parias Construction & Interiors and Morgan Sindall - whose support made this moment of recognition for our colleagues possible.

Enormous thanks to the The Collaboration Choir - Bedford, Milton Keynes & Woburn Sands and Lizzie Dean - over 60 of the city's most joyful and generous voices volunteered to open our awards ceremony with an electric performance that we will never forget. And of course, to the brilliant Imagine Events and DJ Tony Dibbins who made the night extra special.

An issue was identified in our Emergency Department last night after a small number of ceiling tiles fell across two bed spaces. Fortunately, these areas were unoccupied, and no one was injured.

As a precaution, a number of beds and treatment spaces have been temporarily closed while remedial work is carried out.

If you have a serious or life-threatening condition, please continue to come forward for the care you need.

For minor illnesses and injuries, please consider alternative services such as your local pharmacist, GP, or Milton Keynes Urgent Care Services, located just minutes from the main hospital site. If you are unsure which service is right for you, please contact NHS 111.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please stay safe in the hot weather and do not enter the water 💦

There are many dangers including cold water shock and hidden objects under the water.

If you do unintentionally get into trouble in the water, please stay calm, float on your back, and call for help.

Patients can often feel overwhelmed with information following a breast cancer diagnosis. That’s why, following valuable patient feedback, our Breast Care Team has developed a series of six bite-sized videos - designed to provide practical advice and support for those undergoing treatment or post-operative care.

We understand how challenging this journey can be and these videos are here to support you when you need it most💙

Thank you to the Tit 4 Tat Support Group for their fundraising support in making this project possible.
