Party Leader Kay Wesley on BBC Politics North West:

“Democratic capitalism doesn’t work. It sees working people as cogs in a machine that only makes the rich richer.

“In the last decade the number of billionaires has increased sixfold, yet we still have a third of children living in poverty.

“In the Equality Party’s economic model, the economy works for the people, not the other way round.

“This, often called wellbeing, circular or ‘doughnut’ economics, is designed for sustainability and to benefit all the people.

“It is a myth that we need GDP growth to fund services in the sixth richest country in the world. What we need is to change our economy so that everyone can thrive.”

How marvellous that there is now a statue of Jane Austen. The location and surroundings look fitting, based on films I've seen of her works. Hope it gets plenty of footfall, so children see it. A busier location may have given her more visibility.

I went to Emmeline Pankhurst's statue while I was in Manchester a few months ago. She is raised up and reaching out to the crowd. Loved it.

Milton Keynes Council has commissioned a statue of Jennie Lee who led the Foundation of the Open University. Looking forward to that. Hope that's in a busy location, visible to residents.

At this year’s Labour Conference, women’s rights were too often treated as an afterthought.

Fawcett was there to challenge that. We raised urgent concerns about violence against women, sexism in the press, the impact of AI on the gender pay gap, and the growing links between misogyny and far-right movements.

We are entering a new era: more forthright, more vocal, more unapologetic. Because women deserve to live in safety, with dignity, and on equal terms with men.

This fight is urgent, and it needs all of us. Join Fawcett today and help us keep women’s equality at the heart of political debate.

Today the Women’s Equality Party and the Green Party announced our shared vision for a green and caring economy! The fights for gender equality and climate justice are inextricably linked. The policies needed to drive forward equality will also tackle the climate crisis, including investment in childcare, social care and public services.
