Stony Nightingales WI Stony Nightingales WI meets at Swinfen Harris Church Hall, on the second Thursday of each month. Currently the monthly meetings are online via Zoom.

Stony Nightingales WI usually meet at Swinfen Harris Hall, London Road, Stony Stratford on the 2nd Thursday of every month. The WI is the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. It plays a unique role in enabling women to develop new skills and gives them opportunities to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. The Women’s Institute was formed in 1915 with two clear aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then our aims have broadened and we are now the largest women’s organisation in the UK. We celebrated our 90th anniversary in 2005 and currently have 205,000 members in 6,500 WIs.

This Thursday, 9th July we have Fiona Balding coming to give us a demonstration and talk on Ecoprinting and she will revel some of the secrets of creating stunning prints on paper and fabrics, some of which can be replicated at home. She will be bringing along some items for sale such as gift cards, hand bound books and scarves. So please bring along some cash, I expect she can take card payments.

Just a reminder that this will be our last meeting at the Swinfen Harris Church Hall, end of an era for some of us. But we are looking forward to our new hall from September.

This Thursday, 11 June we have Jennifer Hepworth coming to talk to us with her hilarious anecdotes and stories from her time as a first class airline cabin crew.

This Thursday is our meeting and we have Tim a w**e merchant from the Pour House in Stony Stratford who will give us a talk on the production of w**e and its variations and with some w**e tasting, they will be small samples as this is quality tasting not quantity. And the w**e will be on sale at the meeting if you are looking for a special gift or a treat for yourself.

We have a lovely article in the Stony Stratford Town Crier spring addition.

Just to update you all that due to sickness our speaker for tonight has had to cancel, but we have been fortunate to get Sue Malleson from the Stony Business Association to stand in to talk about the work they do for Stony Stratford and the local businesses.

And will have our book and puzzle stall at the meeting tonight and an Easter raffle.

International Women’s Day is a time to come together and recognise the incredible achievements of women everywhere. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the inspiring initiatives led by WI members who have generously given their time, care and skills to support other women.

ICYMI, we hosted our International Women’s Day webinar on Friday, and you can watch it back and hear these powerful stories:

Jane Sorrell and Bramhall WI (Cheshire Federation) shared how one speaker inspired meaningful action to support women in prison including establishing a regular book club.

Nicola Awni from GAP WI (Gwent Federation), a proud member of the Not in My Name Community Champions, who shared her passion for the campaign and the impactful work happening in Wales.

Jane Squirrell from Werrington WI (Huntingdon & Peterborough Federation), who spoke about setting up a prison crafting session – how it began, what they’ve learned, and the powerful impact crafting has had for both members and female residents.

Together, these stories show the strength of women coming together to uplift and empower others. Thank you for all you do, as members, supporters and friends of the NFWI to celebrate and inspire women everywhere.

We have a treat this Thursday (12th February) for our monthly meeting, especially for Bridgerton fans as we have the Georgian Dancers of Amazing Grace who are volunteers from the Cowper & Newton Museum in Olney, dressed in full costume they will perform 18th century dances and talk about dance etiquette. All very Bridgerton.

Visitors are very welcome.

Our next meeting on Thursday 8th January should be very lively with Laura Christie from Milton Keynes Dance Centre leading us in country dancing. Feel free to watch if you don't want to 'dosido' and 'promenade your partner'.
