District Rowing Regatta at Hawley Lake πŸš£β€β™€οΈπŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

Last Sunday our cadets travelled to Hawley Lake to take part in the Sea Cadets Oxon and Bucks District Rowing Regatta, held alongside the Surrey District Sea Cadets Regatta.

It was a fantastic day of competitive rowing, teamwork and excellent sportsmanship across all crews.

Results:
πŸ₯‡ Open Girls – 1st
πŸ₯‡ Junior Girls – 1st
πŸ₯‡ Junior Boys – 1st
πŸ₯ˆ Open Boys – 2nd
πŸ₯ˆ Junior Sea Cadets – 2nd

We were also pleased that our reserve Junior Cadets had the opportunity to get out on the water, joining cadets from for a friendly race against Surrey’s Junior Cadets β€” a great experience and brilliant to see everyone involved.

The final race of the day saw Surrey Staff vs Oxon Bucks Staff, with Oxon Bucks staff taking gold after a close contest.

BZ to all of our cadets for their effort, attitude and support of one another, and thank you to all the volunteers and staff who helped make the day possible. We’d also like to thank Surrey for hosting

Congratulations to our Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Open Girls crews, who now progress to the Southern Area Sea Cadets Rowing Regatta in Poole on 18 July β€” we wish them the very best of luck.

πŸ“ On Saturday, Milton Keynes Sea Cadets-Parents & Supporters Association, alongside several cadets, attended the Newport Pagnell Vintage Event, helping to raise vital funds that support the unit and its activities.

πŸ’— Throughout the weekend, our cadets proudly supported Cancer Research UK Pretty Muddy on Saturday and the Cancer Research UK Race for Life on Sunday, assisting participants and helping these incredible fundraising events run smoothly.

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ A special mention goes to PO Gates, who took on the Race for Life dressed in a full 17th-century soldier's uniform alongside friends and family!

PO Gates shared why this cause means so much:

"Cancer has affected my own family, as my sister has been fighting cancer since the beginning of the year. Like many families, we have seen first-hand the challenges, uncertainty, and strength that come with a cancer diagnosis.

We are taking on this challenge to raise awareness and funds in support of those affected by cancer, helping to fund the research, treatment, and support services that make such a difference.

Every donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to support our fundraising efforts, please follow the link below. Thank you for your support."

πŸ‘ We are incredibly proud of all our cadets, volunteers, and supporters who gave up their time this weekend to support both our local community and the fight against cancer.

βš“οΈ Offshore Season is in Full Swing! 🌊

Some of our cadets have been making the most of the Sea Cadets Offshore Season and have been sharing photos and memories from their recent voyages.

AC Abdullah A and Cdt Yahya A enjoyed their voyage at the beginning of the season, gaining valuable experience and making the most of their time at sea.

More recently, POC Jemma B completed a successful voyage of her own. As an added bonus, the crew of her voyage were fortunate enough to receive a visit from the crew of RFA Mounts Bay, giving them a fantastic insight into life aboard one of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s vessels.

Well done to all our cadets taking part in offshore opportunities this season – we look forward to seeing more photos and hearing about your adventures! βš“οΈπŸŒŠ

πŸ“£ Promotion News! βš“οΈ

Last weekend, two of our Able Cadets travelled to Sea Cadets Marlow to attend the Sea Cadets Oxon and Bucks District Leading Cadet Promotion Board β€” a major step in their Sea Cadets journey.

The rank of Leading Cadet recognises leadership, commitment, teamwork and the ability to support and mentor junior cadets. Achieving it is no small task, with candidates facing a full day of assessments including drill, leadership exercises, peer-led lessons and formal interviews.

We’re really proud to share that both cadets passed πŸ‘

Congratulations to Milton Keynes’ newest Leading Cadets:

🌟 LC Lukas G
🌟 LC Dylan O

A huge amount of hard work, preparation and determination has gone into this achievement and it’s fantastic to see it pay off. BZ to you both! πŸ’ͺβš“οΈ

Thank you as well to all the cadets who supported the board throughout the day by taking part in lessons, drill and leadership activities, and to the staff and volunteers who helped facilitate the event.

The other week, we said goodbye to one of our senior cadets as she finished her cadet journey and officially joined our staff team βš“οΈπŸ‘

POC Melissa H joined TS Whaddon in 2021 as a New Entry Cadet, and over the last few years has become an outstanding example of what Sea Cadets is all about.

From achieving the rank of Petty Officer Cadet in just 3 years, representing the unit at District, Area and National level, completing qualifications and instructor awards, through to serving as a National Cadet Voice Representative β€” Melissa has thrown herself into every opportunity with dedication, professionalism and positivity πŸ’ͺ

More importantly, she became someone younger cadets genuinely look up to. Always willing to help others, lead by example, and represent the unit with pride.

One of the biggest achievements in Sea Cadets is choosing to stay and give back after turning 18 β€” and we’re delighted to officially welcome Melissa to the staff team πŸŽ‰

Thank you for everything you’ve already given to TS Whaddon as a cadet, and congratulations on an incredible cadet career. We can’t wait to see what comes next πŸ‘

We’re incredibly proud to share that TS Whaddon has been awarded the Captain’s Cup in this year’s Sea Cadets National Awards πŸ†βš“οΈ

This award recognises units that may not have placed in the top two of the Canada Trophy competition, but have still made a significant impression on Captain Sea Cadets through the standard and impact of their unit.

Originally introduced as the Commodore’s Cup by Commodore R. M. Parker RN, receiving this recognition for the second year running is something we’re hugely proud of.

To consistently maintain such a high standard year after year is a real credit to everyone involved with TS Whaddon. From training nights and events to competitions, fundraising and everything in between β€” this achievement reflects the hard work, commitment and teamwork across the whole unit.

Congratulations and thank you to all of our cadets, volunteers, staff and supporters for another fantastic year πŸ‘

Catching up on the busy last couple of weeks πŸ‘€

After weeks of preparation, our First Aid Teams travelled to Brock Barracks, hosted by Reading Sea Cadet Corps, to compete in the Southern Area Sea CadetsFirst Aid Competition πŸš‘βš“οΈ

Our cadets did an outstanding job, putting their training and teamwork into practice across a range of challenging scenarios β€” and came away with some fantastic results πŸ‘

πŸ₯ˆ OC Lilly T β€” Joint 2nd Place

πŸ₯ˆ Milton Keynes A β€” AC Cameron M, Cdt LCpl Ben S, CFC Bella C & OC Lilly T
πŸ₯‰ Milton Keynes B β€” AC Dylan O, OC Isabel SC, CFC Molly H & Cdt Josh S

A huge BZ to all of our cadets for the effort, professionalism and teamwork shown throughout the competition β€” narrowly missing out on 1st place overall by just a couple of marks! πŸ’ͺ

Massive thank you as well to the staff and volunteers who have dedicated so much time to training and supporting the teams.

Award News

Friday morning saw the Southern Area Awards and nominations for the National Awards announced.

We were incredibly proud to be awarded the Southern Area Stephenson Trophy for 2025!!
This award is presented to the unit considered to have achieved the highest standard of all-round efficiency over the previous year, and means we now go forward as the Southern Area nomination for the National Canada Trophy.

The unit was also awarded the Bennett Cup, recognising the unit with the most Boatwork qualifications per cadet. The huge amount of time spent on the water last year β€” both offshore and inland β€” gaining a wide range of qualifications has really paid off.

This year makes these awards feel even more significant as it was our final year at Kiln Farm, which had been our home for 38 years. Alongside everything else, the move out of the old unit, handing the building back, and getting established at Millmead Hall has been a huge task for everyone involved. Despite that, keeping the cadet experience at the centre of everything we do has remained the priority throughout.

I was also honoured to be nominated for the National Roddie Casement Sword Award. While this is an individual nomination, it reflects the hard work and support of the whole team here in MK.

None of this would be possible without the effort and commitment of our cadets, staff, UMT, PSA, and the families supporting them behind the scenes. It really is a team effort.

BZ Team Whaddon, and thank you all for everything you do.
