Newton Leys WI was formed 17th October 2013 by the Ladies of a newly built area called Newton Leys. Women of all ages can take a little time out of their hectic schedules and come together with likeminded ladies, to have a little fun and learn new skills, make new friends and make a difference in our community and further. Our meetings take place on the 2nd Thursday of each month (excluding August
) at Newton Leys Community Centre, 7:45pm – 9:30pm. Membership is £39 per year (Jan 2017). As part of your membership, as well as the monthly meetings, you will receive a subscription to WI Life Magazine, which comes out 8 times a year. Visitors are welcome to attend our meetings with a fee of £5 per meeting. We want to make this a fun, modern and relevant WI so please let us know what you would like to see, do or even whether you have a skill you could teach the group. About the Womens Institute (WI)
The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. The WI will celebrate its centenary in 2015 and currently has over 210,000 members in around 6,600 WIs. The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
