As many of you will be aware, Friday January 27th is designated by the United Nations General Assembly as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD).
Holocaust Memorial Day sees nations come together to remember the lives of the six million Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust.
Although the day was created to remember those murdered in the Holocaust; in the UK, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust share that it is also for more recent genocides such as Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. Their theme for this year's reflection is ordinary people – “the ordinary people who let genocide happen, the ordinary people who actively perpetrated genocide, and the ordinary people who were persecuted”.
Please take the time to reflect on this and if you would like to read more, you can go to: www.hmd.org.uk and also https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/international-holocaust-remembrance-day
