Our special breast screening drop ins take place tomorrow!

Women are invited to meet our team, get a behind-the-scenes look at the breast imaging facilities and ask any questions about the breast scanning process.

Senior radiographer Helen Clyde, said: “We know some women can be nervous about attending their routine breast screening appointments but, it’s a simple process and most scans thankfully come back as all-clear. It is really important that women come for screening.

“The drop-in sessions are a chance to meet our team and tour the unit to find out more about the screening process and what to expect.

“Guests can ask any questions they want – we’re here to help explain and encourage more women to attend their screening appointments.”

The drop-ins take place at:

• 9.30am to 12pm at the One Life Medical Centre, Linthorpe Road Middlesbrough
• 1pm to 4pm, at the University Hospital of Hartlepool breast care unit

OPTIMISE with Boro Runners is a safe space for anyone affected by cancer to walk, talk and run. 🏃‍♂️💙

Launched in October 2025 in partnership with Boro Runners, the group is open to people newly diagnosed, living with or recovering from cancer, those who have a loved one with cancer and anyone affected by cancer in some way. The sessions aim to support emotional, social and physical wellbeing.

On Saturday 30 May, 15 of our OPTIMISE runners completed Race for Life at Stewart Park. These are all people who have, or know someone who has, received cancer support from University Hospitals Tees, as well as some of our colleagues in cancer services. Some walked, some jogged, some ran - but all finished.

The group was set up by personalised cancer care prehabilitation lead Chloé McMurray, with support from Katie Lomas, an avid Boro Runner and clinical pharmacy manager for critical care, cardiology and cancer services at the James Cook University Hospital.

Sessions take place every Saturday morning from 10:30am at Stewart Park. No booking required – just turn up!

They are open to all abilities and you can run, jog or walk. Anyone affected by cancer is welcome – patients, friends, family, partners and even furry friends.

For more information, email our cancer prehabilitation team at [email protected] or Boro Runners on social media.

"Being one of only five national cardiac surgery departments to be selected recognises the quality of our existing service and our commitment to innovation demonstrably benefiting our patients..."

We are proud to announce our accreditation as a national leader in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery. 💓

James Cook Hospital is only one of five sites to receive the elite accretion from the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery and The Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists and Critical Care.

The achievement cements the hospital’s status as the regional heart specialist site and identifies it as a UK-leading centre for surgical innovation.

Cutting down the sugar in your diet is an easy way to protect your teeth and gums
from decay and disease.

During Smile Month, try these simple swaps:

🍹No added sugar squash with sparkling water instead of fizzy drinks
☕ Sweetener in hot drinks instead of sugar
🍏Fruits instead of biscuits
🍊Plain, natural yoghurt with fruits or berries for sweetness instead of low-fat yoghurt
