Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Police Team operate from Bridge Street West (Middlesbrough North) and Coulby Newham (Middlesbrough South) Police Stations. We are divided into two Sectors Middlesbrough North led by Inspector Darren Birkett and Middlesbrough South (Coulby Newham) led by Inspector Waseem Khan. Each Inspector has 3 teams of Sergeants, PC’s and PCSO’s who are committed to policing your wards under the strategic aims of Engagement, Problem Solving, and Targeted Activity. We work closely with partners to deliver and outstanding service and aim to make our communities safer and stronger

📉 There has been a 30% reduction in antisocial behaviour (ASB) in September, when compared to September 2025.

Whilst we're happy that there has been a reduction and the numbers are moving in the right direction, we know that this may not feel like reality for many of you in our communities who are suffering due to ASB where you live.

This can be youths on electric bikes and scooters, gangs of children causing intimidation and mischief in parks or shops, people using drugs in public areas, or selling drugs from their homes bringing noise and violence to the area, the list goes on.

We know that ASB is under reported, due to many believing that nothing happens when this is reported.

These reductions show that when ASB is reported, we deal with it. We use legal powers such as Dispersal Orders, Criminal Behaviour Orders or CBOs, and Closure Orders. We work closely with partners in local authorities, housing providers and schools to tackle ASB where we know it is happening.

Please tell us when this is happening so that we can do something about it.

🚗 Sadly, there has been a recent increase in thefts from cars and vans across the Cleveland area.

☝️As the dark nights draw in, here are some tips for keeping your vehicle secure.

👮Please remember to lock your vehicle every time you leave it unattended, and to remove any valuables. This reduces temptation for opportunist thieves.

🔎Check and check again, that your car is locked and the windows are up.

💡Park in a well-lit area.

🔒Use a steering wheel lock.

These suspected stolen quad bikes (pictured below 📸) were recovered by officers from Middlesbrough Community Action Team on Monday 19th October.

The quads were located in a garage on Elvington Green in TS3, where Project Orme takes place.

Project Orme focuses on reducing crime and improving engagement with those who live in the TS3 area – Berwick Hills and Pallister, Park End and Beckfields, and Brambles and Thorntree.

These three quads have now been seized by police and enquiries are ongoing.

Tackling the criminal use of bikes is a priority for us. We know the harm they cause in our communities, and they are often to linked to other criminality.

We have received reports of antisocial behaviour around Norfolk shops in Ormesby Road in Normanby, where youths are gathering in large numbers and harassing shop workers.

🗣️ PCSO Toner, of Coulby Newham Neighbourhood Team said: “This behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will ensure that those involved will be dealt with appropriately.

“We are currently working to identify the people involved in this behaviour, going through our drone footage, checking CCTV footage and working with to partners in the area. Images will be provided to schools and circulated to partners to make sure that we identify those involved.

“Nobody should have to live with ASB. Please speak with your children about how this behaviour affects the people they are targeting and also the wider community.”

Detectives are currently investigating an aggravated burglary at a house on Highbury Avenue in Middlesbrough, overnight between Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October.

There has been a police presence in the Mill Hill field area throughout the day.

🗣️ Detective Constable Sargent, of Middlesbrough CID said: “Investigations are underway following the break-in to the house in the early hours of Sunday morning. A selection of items, including jewellery, was stolen.

“There was a police presence in the area throughout the day on Sunday, and enquiries will continue today. Anyone with concerns can speak to the local Neighbourhood officers patrolling the area or call us on 101.

“Anyone with information or footage that hasn’t yet been submitted to us, please call 101 quoting reference 208791.”

Yesterday, Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team located a cannabis farm at a property in Newport.

Officers went to a property on Tennyson Stret, where they located over 100 cannabis plants.

Police continue to carry out enquiries in relation to those responsible.

Signs that might indicate a premises is being used as a cannabis farm include:
• The property might look empty or unlived in
• People and vehicles coming and going during the day and night
• Large boxes, pipes, Lighting equipment, plastic sheeting, bags of fertilizer or building materials are seen going into the premises at different times
• Fans which might be seen or heard by neighbours
• A smell of the plants on occasion which comes and goes
• Building work going on inside the premises

Cleveland Police works alongside communities, housing agencies, energy providers, neighbouring forces and retailers to crack down on cannabis farms.

🗣️ PC John Skerritt, from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team, said: “Information held by communities across Middlesbrough, and the whole of Cleveland, is vital to helping us locate cannabis farms and identify those involved.

“Cannabis farms can cause misery across our communities, and the criminals who run them have no regard for the safety of local residents. They often bypass electricity and cause potential house fires which can pose a risk to neighbours.”

A man has been charged after Middlesbrough Proactive Team reportedly witnessed a suspected drug deal in the Newport area on the evening of Thursday 15th October.

Whilst on patrol, the officers witnessed suspicious activity on Garett Walk, where they stopped and searched a man who was reportedly found in possession of white powder - which was later confirmed to be co***ne, two mobile phones and cash.

The 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and was later charged. He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court today, Friday 16th October.

Police are issuing crime prevention tips after recent thefts of electric vehicle (EV) charging cables in the area.

Police have received a number of reports in Hemlington, Middlesbrough, and other areas.

The theft of charging cables can be significantly costly and can cause disruption for owners, as well as create potential electrical safety hazards. ⚠️

Officers are now issuing advice on how to protect your home charging cables and how to report any thefts to police.

Protecting your charging cable:
✅ Unplug and store your cable securely when not charging. Keep it inside your home, garage, or a lockable outdoor cable box.
✅ Use a cable lock or a charger with a built-in locking mechanism where available.
✅ Park in a well-lit area and, if possible, position your vehicle so the charging cable is less visible from the street.
✅ Install or utilise CCTV or a doorbell camera to cover your driveway and charging point.
✅ Charge during the daytime or when someone is at home where practical, rather than leaving cables unattended overnight.

Using public charging points:
✅ Check charger status before travelling. Many apps provide live updates showing whether a charging point is operational or if cables have been removed.
⚠️ Never use a cable that appears cut, frayed, damaged, or tampered with. Treat it as an electrical hazard and keep clear.
✅ Neatly return tethered cables after use, helping to reduce opportunities for theft or damage.
✅ Report any damage immediately to the charge point operator so repairs can be arranged quickly and incidents can be recorded.

Additional tips:
✅ Mark your cable with a unique identifier or forensic marking product where possible.
✅ Speak with neighbours and local EV owners. Many thefts take only a few minutes, so an extra set of eyes can make a real difference.
✅ Stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour around charging points or parked EVs.

Middlesbrough Proactive Team made two arrests in connection with suspected drug dealing on Wednesday evening, 14th October.

Around 8:30pm, officers in the Newport area witnessed a suspected drug deal at the door of an address on Colville Street.

Officers stopped a man nearby and recovered a small amount of cannabis.

Police then went to an address, where they seized cannabis and around £3,000 in cash.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs and possession of criminal property. A 64-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs and concerned in the supply of class B drugs. Both have been bailed whilst enquiries continue.
