๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธRUBBISH NEWS ALERT ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿšฎ

The parish council has purchased 10 brand new litter bins to be installed around the village very soon.

Many will replace existing bins but are larger capacity and more effective. Some of the current bins are open top and prone to litter blowing around when they get full but these new ones should address that.

This is just one measure we are adopting to try and keep the village clean and tidy.

The parish council has two vacancies for a parish councillor.

If you can spare time to attend monthly meetings and possibly assist at other times with some of our ongoing projects, we would love to hear from you.

You would be joining a harmonious and highly committed group of councillors who are keen to improve facilities around the parish and make it a nicer place to live.

For an informal chat about the role of a councillor or how to apply, please speak to any councillor or contact the parish clerk, Tony Shaw. Email [email protected] or call 07860 923642.

This is an exciting time to join the parish council. Don't be shy ๐Ÿ™โ˜บ๏ธ

If you're passing the Memorial Garden on High Street, you may want to pop in and admire the splendour of the statue.

The parish council commissioned a professional company to clean the marble and granite, which has come up a treat.

Draper Memorials then attended and repainted all the lettering from scratch. Not just a touch-up but a full strip and repaint ๐Ÿ˜

As residents will be aware the government have announced the new local government structure for Lincolnshire. It is basically the submission made by Lincoln City Council. It takes the form of an expanded Lincoln city area creating the new Lincoln Council ( sometimes called the โ€œdonutโ€) with the rest of the county being Lincolnshire Council. The expanded area goes out as far as Leadenham in one direction, to Metheringham in another. It also goes out north of Lincoln and west as far as Bardney. The distribution of candidates will be based on district/city council wards and not county council divisions. There will be multi-member wards.
There will be an election next year with the new councils coming into being in 2028.
However, concerns have been raised because of a Lincoln City Council proposal to have more councillors in wards deemed to have higher deprivation. This would mean some residents having more representation than others! To the best of my knowledge never have council wards been determined on anything other than population numbers.
If the government were to give approval it would mean that some inner-city wards would have for example two councillors and rural ones such as Metheringham only one. The concern is that this is being done for purely political reasons by the controlling city council group (Labour).
This proposal is being challenged.

I am pleased to see that a new volunteer CSW team has been formed in Metheringham. We will see them out and about in due course. CSW has been shown to help reduce speeding across the county. We now have several teams in our area now. You will see them out in hi-viz with a speed โ€œgunโ€ noting the details of vehicles recorded as exceeding the limit. The details will be passed to the police not for prosecution as only the police can record and prosecute. Drivers reported by Speedwatch will instead receive a letter from the police, if they repeat the โ€œoffenceโ€ they receive a second letter and on a third occurrence a visit from a police officer. However, I have been advised that itโ€™s very rare for it to reach stage three.

Recently a resident asked me about highways issue. I mentioned the Fixmystreet app to them, and they wanted to know more so we had tutorial on using it.
It is the recommended way to report all manner of problems not just potholes. For example, it includes problems with streetlights, footpaths, fly tipping and more.

Last few pitches remain for this outside event. To apply please email:

[email protected]

We are now full for cake stalls. Please note all stall holders will need to provide PLI and a basic risk assessment as per NKDC trading rules.

Notice about the public toilets:

The cleaning company who take care of the public toilets has ceased trading this week.

On health and safety grounds we have had no choice but to close the public toilets whilst alternative arrangements can be made.

In the short term, we would welcome contact from any cleaner who holds public liability insurance, who could take this on so we can re-open them.

Looking further ahead we will put a new tender out for the cleaning contract, which includes the pavilion, parish office and library.

If you know someone who can help us in the short term, please ask them to contact [email protected] or call Tony on 07860 923642.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

The parish council is sorry to hear that cars and pedestrians congregating on Alfred Avenue for a few minutes of voyeurism is causing considerable distress to residents.

This morning we have written to the Chief Fire Officer at Lincolnshire Fire Service to ask if anything can be done to better secure the scene.

As soon as we receive a response, an update will be posted on this page.

Thank you.

02/08/2026

Following requests from the residents of Alfred Avenue, please can we respectfully ask that you do not congregate/stop around the affected area please.

Local residents have observed groups gathering and in some cases, people actually taking photos of the damage. This is adding to the distress of all who have been impacted by this tragic event. Please just pass by.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you to all the familes who turned out this afternoon to the official opening of the new play park structure. It was lovely to see so many children enjoying it. Our thanks also go to the Wilcox family for funding it with the Section 106 money and for joining us today. The area still needs a proper fence and we are working to organise this as soon as the contractors have capacity.

(The opening was intentionally low key out of respect for all those affected by the terrible events of yesterday).
