Parking Update and Action to Address Parking Concerns in Pentrebach

We would like to update residents on measures being introduced to help address parking issues associated with Red Lion FC matches and training sessions in Pentrebach.

From Saturday 12 September, players, coaches, volunteers and spectators attending Red Lion FC fixtures will be able to use the car park at the Integrated Children's Centre (ICC). This provision will also be available for evening training sessions and matches.

The ICC car park has capacity for 44 vehicles, and we have worked closely with the Council to ensure the football club has the appropriate agreement in place, including the necessary public liability insurance.

In addition, earlier this week we met on site with South Wales Police and Council officers to highlight residents' concerns regarding parking and obstruction in the area.

Following those discussions, it was agreed that the following measures would be considered:

✅ Patrols increased during matchdays and training sessions.
✅ Additional signage installed to remind drivers of the impact caused by inconsiderate and obstructive parking.
✅ Enforcement action to be taken where necessary, including the issuing of fines.

We hope these measures will help ease parking pressures in the area, and we thank residents for your continued patience, understanding and feedback as we work together to address these concerns.

As local Councillors, we continue to work with Merthyr Tydfil CBC to identify and progress remediation options for the Nant yr Odyn tip.

We will be holding a public meeting to share information on the potential solutions available and to keep residents informed of the next steps.

Congratulations to Aberfan Aqua Young at Heart Swimming Club on their successful application to the National Lottery Community Fund Wales.

It was lovely to join their celebration today and learn about the great work they do and activities they have planned over the coming months.

Great news for Pentrebach! 🎉

The new playground is now complete and will officially open from tomorrow morning.

We hope local children and families will make great use of this fantastic new facility for years to come.

Thank you to residents for your patience and understanding while the improvement works were carried out.

Due to the Red Weather Warning for extreme heat on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June, Merthyr Tydfil schools will be making individual decisions around closures or adjustments to the school day, and this will be decided depending on the learning environment.

This will be communicated by schools to parents and carers directly. Please check school websites/social media pages for any updates.
