Thought long and hard about this .
While Absolutly people should be locked up for there crimes , long has the system been broken, probation on its knees , prison better than people’s homes, soft cps, courts shut all over the Uk , street wardens with no more powers than me or you, no stats from the last time except a pat on the back from the crime commissioner who didn’t even listen to me asking not once but twice for stats from turning point and the wardens , no a answer !!!
Yet 2 million he’s predated to throw at a sticking plaster again .
I asked for 20k yep a small % for a shame I seen working in West Midlands .
Addressing the problem of asb repeat shop thefts .
It dsnt mean you don’t get locked up, it means we’re working with the real problems someone’s facing .
Yes people can change , yes people can look forwards to a better life and proof there with in the community again .
It saddens me to hear people say there called scum do there’s no point in trying to, it saddens me there’s people out there making money by dragging people back .
Yes they need to want it but sometimes it take help for motivation , to get to appointments and the will to respect themselfs and others.
I was fortunate to talk to some addicts that have turned there life’s around and are know mentors .
There’s HOPE

A new scheme is being launched in Melton Mowbray in a bid to ‘break the cycle’ of persistent shoplifters reoffending in the town.
Read all about it in the report in the comments section.

It’s not just business rates it vat too.
It’s wages you can not offset , we ran hospitality for 18 yrs one of our biggest out puts was wages .

For last months VAT the business had to pay £17,000 over to HMRC, that doesn’t include the £9000 PAYE bill, that’s just ONE MONTH.

Some months I have to ring and beg them for a payment plan because the money has been spent on suppliers, repairs and surprise expenses, if the VAT was reduced to 10% this money could be used to pay my staff more, put money back into the business and we could reduce our prices meaning happy customers.

I urge you all to sign this petition, hospitality really is struggling 👇🏻

Melton Rural South Monthly Beat Update – May 2026

Welcome to May’s Priority Update for the Melton Rural South Beat. Our beat priorities are decided from feedback from the community in the form of surveys through Neighbourhood Link and our crime incident reporting systems.
Thank you to all those who have completed the Neighbourhood Link surveys.
Our 3 main beat priorities continue to be:
Road Safety
Drug Taking
Rural and Farming Equipment Thefts

PC Tranter and I feel it is important that we keep you as residents informed regarding the level and type of crime on the Melton Rural South beat and how it is being addressed which is why we post these monthly updates.

In May we have seen a high number of Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) and Road Related Incidents which includes vehicle breakdowns and dangerous driving, on the beat’s roads at 40. Sadly, one of these resulted in a fatality. As always, our advice is please drive to the speed limit and the weather conditions.

Road traffic enforcement on the beat’s roads continues to be addressed with high visibility speed monitoring together with using both marked and unmarked police vehicles to stop vehicles.
The number of criminal damage incidents in May has reduced to 3, and the number of reported incidents of theft has decreased to 3.
There have been 20 reports of Assault (including domestic related assault) in May across the Rural South Beat which has increased from the previous month.
The number of reported burglaries on the Rural South has increased to 4. The beat team, supported by the Rural Crime Team will be increasing high visibility patrols across the beat in an attempt to deter any further incidents and reassure residents. Please ensure you keep your doors and windows locked and your outbuildings secured.
In addition there were 5 reported incidents of vehicle crime and 3 drugs related incidents.
PC Tranter and I will continue to spend as much time on the beat as possible, working longer shifts in an attempt to deter criminals on our area.

As always PC Tranter and I are grateful for all your help, co-operation, and support. Thank you.

Retail crime is huge across the uk .
In melton there’s been brilliant joint working , safer communities , funding by us 3 yrs , I’m sure that will continue, police, volunteers and shop keepers themselfs , melton bid .
Make melton to hot for shop lifters to visit.

A few stats from smart scheme .
8,080 shop lifting last year in Leicestershire
526 shoplifts locally
CCTV is best as it’s clear and proof provided for evidence
We have the highest 68.4% detection
I brought up the ongoing asb from the teenagers and what was the plan for the summer .
There will be plans , but please keep reporting this is very important.
You can report to police , safer communities , you’re always welcome to still contact me as many of you still do , which I’ve always kept names under wrap Thankyou for your trust in me 🙏although meltons police page does say crime has risen during May .i did share there post on here .

Good news the start of the affending to recovery scheme is starting June 16 th , I put a lot of hard work into this , and most importantly lived experience person on the street working to turn lives around . One day a week isn’t enough but hopefully more money will come and we get to build in this scheme like the West Midlands have .
We have to try and address the problem cause this merry go round we’ve had for years in the system is not working .

We note with interest the Tory Leader claims of ordering the new Country Park bridge. Let's be very clear the new replacement bridge was agreed July 2025 at Full Council. The installation is not something the Tories have suddenly achieved in a month, the bridge was already agreed and a considerable amount of work done with the suppliers, designers and the Environment Agency to ensure the bridge is of a high standard.
We agreed on a budget to ensure the town furniture was repainted during the previous 3 years. The town area cleared of old Covid stickers and improved street cleaning, which Tories had ignored for years.
Rural areas were not forgotten. Forums took place, plus food banks and planning forums with local parishes, so Tories are not instigating anything new.
However, we note the intention to continue our good work for our borough, but we prefer residents are not mislead by party political spin.
