Thieves target lifesaving firefighting equipment at Whaley Bridge for second time.
For the second time, thieves have broken into Whaley Bridge Fire Station and stolen essential lifesaving hydraulic equipment.
The latest theft took place between 8am Saturday 16 May and midnight, with the thieves forcing entry through a window.
It is estimated the value of the hydraulic cutting gear stolen, which includes a power pack, hoses, cutters, spreaders and hydraulic ram is between £20k - £25k.
Speaking about the theft, Group Manager Nic Lacey said: “Not only does this equipment have a high monetary value, but the real value in this equipment is the role it plays in saving lives, specifically at road traffic collisions where this type of equipment is essential.
“Tragically this is the second time Whaley Bridge Fire Station has been targeted by thieves and is one of several thefts impacting Derbyshire fire stations since 2019. This is also a national issue with these thefts affecting fire services across the whole of the UK.
“While the Service has made improvements to its station security, we would like to ask the public to continue to be vigilant and help us by reporting any suspicious activity at any fire station.”
This morning the Service is working with Derbyshire Constabulary as they commence their investigation into the theft.
