Join the National Trust for Scotland Archaeology Team for an exciting archaeological investigation at Culzean Castle's historic West Green. 🪏

🏰🔎Archaeologists will be exploring an area south-west of the castle to uncover clues about lost structures, historic pathways, defensive features and early gardens. The excavation is part of ongoing research into how Culzean evolved from a medieval stronghold into the iconic country house we know today.

Join the Rangers in supporting the Marine Conservation Society’s National Big Beach Clean. Help us litter pick the beach and find out more about plastics in our ocean, and what we can do to help. 🦭🦀

Join the National Trust for Scotland Archaeology Team for an exciting archaeological investigation at Culzean Castle's historic West Green. 🪏

This excavation forms part of ongoing research into the development of the castle and its surrounding landscape, helping us understand how Culzean evolved from a medieval stronghold into the famous country house seen today.

The excavation will focus on an area south-west of the castle where historic maps, eighteenth-century sketches and previous research suggest that important structures once stood.

These may include defensive walls and bastions, service buildings, access routes linking the shoreline to the castle, and elements of earlier garden terraces and landscaping associated with the pre-Adam castle complex.

Happy World Ranger Day from the Culzean Rangers!🌳🏰

Today we are taking a moment to celebrate the work carried out to protect our natural and cultural heritage - not just across our beautiful coastlines and woodlands here in Ayrshire, but all around the world.

Being a Ranger means wearing a lot of different hats (and muddy boots), whether looking after wildlife, managing habitats, maintaining access or sharing stories of Culzean with our amazing visitors, we love what we do. 🥾

But today is also looking beyond Culzean as we want to send a huge shoutout to our fellow Rangers worldwide, from those guarding endangered wildlife in national parks to those caring for local green spaces. 🌏
