Cumberland Council fails its audit, overspends by millions of pounds.

“We have been unable to obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence by the backstop date to conclude that the Authority’s financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2025 as a whole are free from material misstatement. We were also unable to obtain sufficient appropriate evidence over the corresponding figures or whether there was any consequential effect on the Authority Comprehensive Income and Expenditure
Statement for the year ended 31 March 2025 for the same reason. We have concluded that the possible effect on the financial statements of undetected misstatements arising from this matter could be both material and pervasive.”
