In Remembrance of Alex Salmond
October 12, 2025 – One Year On

Today, on this somber anniversary, we gather not just in grief, but in the unyielding fire of resolve. Alex Salmond, the lion of Scotland, the architect of our nation's boldest dreams, slipped from our world exactly one year ago. A statesman whose voice thundered like the Highland winds, he fought not for personal glory, but for the soul of a people – for the right of Scotland to stand tall, sovereign and free. From the oil rigs of the North Sea to the halls of Holyrood, from the referendum's electric dawn in 2014 to every impassioned speech that stirred the heart of independence, Alex was the heartbeat of a movement that refused to be silenced.

He was more than a First Minister; he was a storyteller of possibilities, a debater who wielded words like claymores, cutting through the chains of doubt and division. Under his gaze, Scotland glimpsed its future – vibrant, united, and unbound. His wit could disarm foes, his vision ignite the spark in the quiet corners of our isles. Yet, for all his triumphs, the shadows of injustice loomed, a fabricated storm that sought to tarnish the man who dared to dream too large. Acquitted in the courts of law, vindicated by the truth he always held dear, Alex endured the slings of those who feared his fire.

But here, on this day of remembrance, we do not merely mourn. We roar. Alex, your legacy is etched in the salt of our tears and the steel of our spines. We will never let go. Not until justice is delivered – full, fierce, and final. The whispers of conspiracy, the echoes of a flawed inquest that spared no mercy, will not fade into the mist. We demand answers, we demand accountability, for the institution that betrayed you and, in turn, betrayed us all. Your fight was our fight, and it endures. In parliaments and pubs, in streets and salons, from Aberdeen to Ayr, the cry rises: Justice for Alex!

Rest easy, old friend, among the heather and the heroes. Watch over us as we carry your torch – brighter, bolder, unbreakable. Scotland will rise, as you always knew it would. And when that day comes, it will be because of you. Slàinte mhòr to the indomitable spirit that still walks with us. We will never forget. We will never yield. Until justice is ours, your name will be our battle cry.

In memory of Alexander Elliot Anderson Salmond (1954–2024). Forever the father of the nation we build.
