Prolific shoplifter issued Criminal Behaviour Order

A man who has committed several thefts at shops in Leicester has been banned from entering a number of premises.

Christopher Chapman was charged with three counts of theft and appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Friday 4 September, where he was given a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

He was also given a rehabilitation order and ordered to pay compensation to the stores.

The CBO prohibits 38-year-old Chapman of no fixed address, from entering: -

• Co-Op, Main Street, Scraptoft
• Co-Op, Station Road, Thurnby
• Co-Op, Thurncourt Road, Leicester
• Aldi, Fletton Close, Leicester
• Tesco, Downing Drive, Leicester
• Tesco, Maidenwell Avenue, Leicester
• Tesco petrol station, Maidenwell Avenue, Leicester

He must leave any store or retail premises that he enters immediately when requested to do so by a member of staff.

Wigston’s Safer Streets Team said: “We are pleased the courts have granted this order, this will hopefully go someway in deterring Chapman from committing further offences. If he continues to commit offences and breaches the terms of the CBO, he may face a custodial sentence.

“We would encourage anyone who witnesses Chapman breaching the conditions of his CBO to report it.”

As the evenings get darker, we’re reminding everyone to take a few simple steps to keep homes and vehicles secure.

Longer hours of darkness can make it easier for opportunistic thieves to spot valuables or target properties that look empty. A little preparation now goes a long way.

Key tips for the darker nights:

• Keep keys out of sight 🔑 — avoid leaving car or house keys near doors, windows or letterboxes.
• Light up your home 💡 — use timers or leave a light on so your property looks lived‑in.
• Secure doors and windows 🚪 — lock up properly, even if you’re only stepping out briefly.
• Hide valuables 👜 — keep wallets, handbags, laptops and cash out of view.
• Check your vehicle 🚗 — remove valuables, lock it, and keep keys well away from entry points.

Let’s all do our bit to keep our communities safe as we head into the darker months.

Yesterday we took a report of a scam that occured in Lutterworth. A couple were approached by a young well dressesd woman who could not speak or hear, appearing to be using sugn language. She had a clipboard with the details of a charity supporting children and women. The couple were invited to make a car payment of £5. This supposedly did not go through so used the card again believing it was for the initial £5. Later when feeling they may have been scammed they checked their bank account to find a significant amout had been taken.
So please be aware that this type of scam has happened and could be repeated. If you wish to kindly give to charity please use the official site or those that operate within a store. In this case the couple were apprached in a car park.
So beware this type of person and scam can seem completely genuine. If in doubt a polite no thank you should do. Then please call us as soon as possible.

🚔 Saddington Car Boot Sale Patrols 🚔

This morning, officers from Leicestershire Police carried out patrols at Saddington Car Boot Sale, helping to keep the event safe and providing reassurance to visitors, stallholders and the wider community.

👮‍♂️ PC 4507 Czechowski and PC 874 Vojak-Lansdell were out and about throughout the morning, providing a highly visible and approachable police presence.
The aim of the patrols was simple: to be highly visible, approachable and reassuring. By being present in the community, officers were able to deter offending, provide reassurance and engage with members of the public.

Our officers enjoyed speaking with visitors and stallholders throughout the morning, and were pleased to see such a great turnout at the car boot sale. 👋

Two officers from our neighbourhood policing area have been recognised by the Royal Humane Society for their life-saving actions after helping a man who had suffered devastating machete injuries.

Sergeant Paige Eaves and PC Dominic Parry acted quickly when the seriously injured victim arrived outside Market Harborough police station in July 2025. Despite the severity of his wounds and significant blood loss, the officers remained calm, administered emergency first aid and worked to keep him alive while urgent medical assistance was arranged.

Their decisive actions helped ensure the man survived until specialist paramedics could take over his care. In recognition of their bravery, professionalism and commitment to saving life, both officers have been awarded Royal Humane Society (RHS) Certificates of Commendation. Andy Chapman from the RHS said; " They were confronted by a horrific scenario. However, they managed to stay calm, realised that it was essential to stem the loss of blood if the man was to survive, and they took all the right steps to achieve that.

“As a result the man, who had been critically injured did survive. But without their treatment he would not have lived. They did a remarkable job in the most harrowing of circumstances and without a shadow of doubt deserve the awards they have received.”

Congratulations to PC Parry and Sgt Eaves on this well-deserved recognition.
