We cannot reiterate this point enough…

Open water is dangerous!

Do not enter it.. not even for a ‘quick dip to cool off’!

If you do see anyone in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service 🚒⚠️💦

We are taking the unusual step this afternoon of sharing open water safety advice from a local District Councillor, but with good reason: former Mayor of Charnwood Dr Julie Bradshaw was a professional swimmer, who first swam the English Channel at the age of 15, and then did so again a few years later, smashing the previous world record by more than nine hours. She was also awarded an MBE for Services to Swimming and Charity.

She is, in short, a highly respected expert in the field of open water swimming, and her advice on the subject coincides with our own: open water is dangerous, and should be avoided.

We are reinforcing this clear, simple message, firstly because tragically there have been more than 10 accidental drownings across the UK this week, including children and teenagers, but also because we've noticed a worrying amount of people questioning and contradicting this safety advice on social media recently.

Our on-call team are available throughout this bank holiday but we would prefer not to invade your BBQ 😅🚒 💦

Planning a barbecue later? Please take extra care on such a hot day, especially if using disposable barbecues, as these can spark fires in dry conditions.

Make sure your barbecue is well away from anything flammable, and that it is monitored throughout. Keep children and animals away, and be sensible with alcohol.

Never use accelerants to light it, and make sure you have a way of extinguishing it quickly. Once it's finished, extinguish it thoroughly, and never dispose of the hot ashes in a bin.

We are sad to report anti social behaviour in and around the Historic water tower Bosworth Hall Hotel & Spa.

Youth have been seen climbing at height, damaging the building and are at risk of serious injury. The building and state it is currently in poses a significant risk to any one trespassing and entering the building.
We have been working with our partners at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and Hinckley Police to ensure that the building is secure and that the message is delivered to the local community.

Our colleague and friend from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Billesdon Station gives his account of how being an On-Call Firefighter in his community works for him around his life and fulltime work commitments.

Don't go into the water if someone else is in trouble – call 999 and ask for the Fire Service if inland or if at the coast ask for the Coast Guard.

Never drink alcohol and then go for a swim or attempt to jump into water.

Avoid walking or running near water on your own or late at night – it's easier than you think to slip and fall in.

RTC (Road Traffic Collision) was the topic of our training last night.

Undertaking a ‘casualty-led’ extrication was achieved by stabilisation, door push and pull, door removal and finally B-post removal.
‘Hands on’ the tools means we remain familiar with them, their functions and capabilities.
