Great day at the 17 P&M Golf Society event held at Wellow Golf Course. The format included a 9-hole, 2-player scramble followed by 18 holes of individual Stableford, providing a fantastic mix of team and individual competition.

With 24 golfers in attendance, the event was very well supported and enjoyed in beautiful weather. There was some excellent golf on display (alongside a few challenging moments!), but overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable day on the course, rounded off with some fantastic prizes.

These events are open to all serving personnel and veterans. The next event is scheduled to take place at Dibden Golf Course on Wednesday 3rd June (TBC). We look forward to seeing you there. Please contact the Regiment Golf IC Hugh Mcgarvey if you interested

Soldiers swap issued PT kit for pink, to mark International Women’s Day and support Breast Cancer Now

We believe that recognizing the achievements and health of women is central to a strong, inclusive, and effective military force. To mark International Women’s Day, 17RLC handed the lens and the pen to Pte Bungay and Sgt Spann. They captured a CO's PT session with a twist. Soldiers were encouraged to exchange elements of their uniform kit for something pink, supporting a cause that affects women of all ages.

The morning was driven by a live DJ and high-tempo energy. It concluded at a "carb reload station" where a charity cake sale raised vital funds. The words of our personnel tell the story best.

"For more than a century, people around the world have marked International Women's Day on 8th March. It is a global day recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Because women historically lacked recognition and power, their day became a significant global movement."

"Breast Cancer Now is a charity in the United Kingdom which was formed in 2015 by the merger of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. It is the UK's largest breast cancer charity. Its declared 'Action Plan' is 'by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live'."

"The brightest minds in breast cancer are here. Making life-saving research happen in labs across the UK and Ireland. Right now, they are funding 80 cutting-edge research projects worth over £27 million. Let's help them discover how to tackle secondary breast cancer, develop better treatments, prevent and diagnose breast cancer early, and improve people’s quality of life." — Pte Bungay & Sgt Spann.

Our event raised over £350. Not bad for a morning's work - your turn!

Understanding the DNA of 17 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC.

Defence capability relies on the ability to project power where infrastructure does not exist. 17 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC provides this fundamental link, ensuring that the UK can move personnel, equipment, and stores from ship to shore in the most austere environments. Without this capacity, the reach of the British Army stops at the water’s edge.

Recently, the Regiment hosted the Chief of Staff (COS) for the Allied Rapid Reaction Force (ARRC) for a three-day immersive visit. Supported by the 104 Brigade Commander, COSARRC sought to understand the reality behind the reputation of the Regiment. This was an authentic look at our daily operations, devoid of any attempt to "paint the grass green." The visit spanned everything from the rigours of Regimental PT and Mess life to the technical complexity of discharging a Logistic Beach Unit (LBU).

The LBU is the core of our business. When a port is unavailable, we load the MEXEFlote and find a beach. We are the first step in turning a coastline into a theatre point of entry, enabling engineers and supply vehicles to follow. On a cold, bright winter morning, COSARRC saw exactly how our tradespeople and officers resolve myths into operational certainty.

"The LBU is where the Regiment stands out from its peers. It is the moment where people, equipment, and stores move from the sea to the land. Seeing the COS ARRC get into the meat of what we do was a proud moment for the team. — LCpl M, Port Operator"
Our success on the battlefield and the sports field stems from a shared purpose and physical resilience. This visit ensured that future planning is based on a realistic understanding of our niche, essential maritime capability.

Honouring the standard of the first Commandos through a test of modern grit.

To uphold the standards of resilience forged during the Second World War, eight soldiers from 17 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC travelled to the Scottish Highlands on Saturday, 7 March. Their objective was the annual Commando Speed March, a race that replicates the original selection test for those aspiring to join the elite British Commandos.

The task required the team to cover 7 miles from Spean Bridge Train Station to Achnacarry Estate while carrying 16 kg of equipment. This route follows the historic footsteps of wartime candidates who navigated the same path in heavy woollen service dress and brogue shoes. Maintaining the uncompromising standard of the past, the soldiers had to finish in under 60 minutes to avoid the historic penalty of being returned to unit.

The 17 RLC contingent, including SSgt Dales, Sgt Anderson, Cpl Cope, LCpl Meadows, LCpl Koroivuya, LCpl Birch, LCpl Willet, and Pte Tucker, demonstrated the physical and mental fortitude required of maritime logistics specialists in demanding environments. By completing this historic route, the participants ensured that the legacy of the Achnacarry "Originals" remains a live component of the Regimental identity. The event serves as a stark reminder of the endurance required to meet Defence objectives in any terrain.

Discipline is forged long before the first bell rings.

The regimental boxing team is building foundational fitness under intense physical fatigue.

Pushing through demanding rounds together builds the core trust required across our trades.

This rigorous conditioning builds absolute focus and resilience under sustained pressure.

That individual grit enables safe port operations and delivers constant readiness for UK Defence.

Hard work on the snow finally pays off.

17 Port and Maritime RLC have officially wrapped up Ex RUCKSACK, the Army Nordic Skiing Championships, with some incredible results. Finishing second place overall, out of 21 teams!

We are proud to announce the team took gold in the most prestigious race, the Patrol race, covering 30km with 40kg over mixed terrain that included command tasks throughout.

A special mention to Maj Andrews of 165RLC, leading the patrol and inspiring the younger generation with a keen display of grit and determination. The team also finished second in all the other 4 races.

Individual excellence was also on full display:
• Pte Welsh: Crowned the Best RLC Skier overall. He also represented the

Army team, successfully retaining the Inter-Services trophies.
• Lt Black: Represented the RLC Women’s Team, securing an impressive 2nd place overall.

Mud washes off. Discipline does not.

The Marchwood Dolphins secured the Army Premiership Cup with a 15-8 win, but the trophy is secondary to the traits that earned it.

To hold a defensive line when your lungs are burning requires the same mental resilience needed on a bleak beachhead or a chaotic quay side.
It requires absolute trust that the person next to you will make their tackle.

It demands "restrained aggression", that's the ability to apply force without losing control.

We invest in sport because it accelerates experience. It teaches us to communicate in chaos and perform under pressure.

We play as we fight. 15-8 is the scoreline but legacy is the team.

06/02/2026

The Marchwood Dolphins secured a hard-fought victory in the final of the Army Rugby Union Cup against a determined opposition.

The mud-stained kit and narrow scoreline tell the true story of the match better than the result alone.

Sport demands the same disciplined aggression and absolute trust required on operations.

We play as we fight: with resilience, unity, and a refusal to quit when the conditions turn against us.

This is how we build the teams that deliver for Defence.

Massive result for the 17 Port and Maritime RLC Nordic Skiing team at the Divisional Championships. We’re coming home with 1st place finishes in every single race.

The hard work on the snow paid off, and the standard has been set.

Next stop: The Army Championships. Let’s keep this momentum sliding!

Extra credit goes to Pte Welsh for leading the way as Top Senior, and Pte Tucker for a massive performance to take 2nd Novice. It’s great to see that grit and talent at every level of the team.

Resilience is built under pressure; sometimes that pressure is mud and rain.

114 runners took on the Royal Logistic Corps Virtual 5 km Championships.
A wet, muddy cross country route tested resolve, not just pace.

Five kilometres. Soft ground. Relentless conditions. Runners pushed on for each other; best effort mattered more than finish time. This is how we build grit, judgement, and teamwork that carry into operations.
