🦌 What a Week for This Beautiful Boy… and a Reality Small Wildlife Rescues Face Every Day

Today, our team travelled all the way to Torksey Lock, Lincoln, to assist a terrified deer trapped inside an enclosed private garden with absolutely no way out. Frightened, stressed and with nowhere safe to go, this beautiful wild animal had been left trapped for days.

The wonderful volunteers at Canal & River Trust at Torksey Lock had reportedly tried everything to get him help, making multiple calls to the RSPCA, fire service, police and wildlife rescues, but nobody would attend.

That is, until they found us.

Yesterday evening, Becky and Simon made the 55-minute journey to assess the situation and see if he could be safely freed. Sadly, he was simply too active and terrified for two people to handle safely, so a plan was made to return early this morning with a bigger team.

And what a challenge he was!

This poor lad was leaping around in panic, frightened and exhausted. Working calmly and carefully, the team slowly created a safe barrier to reduce the space he had to move and minimise stress. Through patience, teamwork and determination, Glenn was finally able to safely intercept and secure him.

After a full check-over, we were relieved to find he was uninjured and fit for release. The best part? He was safely relocated to a beautiful local woodland where he can now live exactly as nature intended, wild and free 🌲💚

But rescues like this also highlight a difficult reality for small wildlife teams like ours.

Too often, small voluntary rescues are the ones stepping in when animals are left with nowhere else to turn. We give our time, fuel, sleep, finances and energy because every life matters, even when we are already stretched beyond our limits.

This post is not about causing drama. It is about awareness. We want people to understand the pressures small rescues face and why support for wildlife rehabilitation matters so much.

We may be exhausted, but we still made that journey today, because this deer mattered.

A huge thank you to the caring staff and volunteers at Torksey Lock who never gave up on him and did everything they could to get him help.

Wildlife deserves better, and every animal deserves the chance to be safe, free and wild. 🦌

A little share of our local swan family. After all the drama with the balderton Cob we figured a positive Swan post was required 💖🦢

A truly special release day 🦉💚

After lots of care, a beautiful group of tawny owl babies have now spread their wings and headed back to where they belong. We also had the privilege of releasing an adult tawny owl back home after a short stay with the team.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Fly high little ones ✨

🦔 A Little Hedgehog Family’s Journey to Safety 🦔

For two long days, a tired little mummy hedgehog stayed tucked away in a garden with her tiny babies.

Perhaps she had chosen that spot because she felt she had nowhere else to go. Maybe she was exhausted, hungry, or simply trying her very best to protect the precious little lives she had brought into the world. As the hours passed, she stayed close to them, shielding them the only way a mother knows how, with quiet determination and endless love.

The kind finder watched with growing concern. Something didn’t feel right. Hedgehog mums don’t usually stay exposed in gardens for so long with tiny babies unless something is wrong. Wanting to do the right thing, they reached out for help.

But help wasn’t easy to find.

After trying many places and struggling to get the support they desperately needed, worry began to creep in. Time mattered for this tiny family, and every passing hour felt important.

Thankfully, their plea didn’t go unseen.

Our team spotted the call for help and immediately sprang into action. No hesitation, no delay! because when vulnerable wildlife needs us, we do everything we can.

Now, this brave little mummy and her precious babies are finally safe in the care of one of our dedicated ‘Vale Trained’ hog handlers, where they can receive the specialist care, warmth, monitoring and support they so desperately needed.

Now, instead of uncertainty, they have safety.

Instead of struggling alone, they have experienced hands watching over them.

And instead of being forgotten, this little family now has hope. ❤️

To the finder, thank you for caring enough to ask for help and not giving up when it became difficult. Because of your compassion, this little hog family has a chance.

Sometimes, it only takes one person to change everything for the tiniest souls. 🦔💚

Hi everyone! 🐾 We looking for some local event recommendations or connections.
We are hoping to attend some community events, summer fairs, galas, or markets over the coming months to raise vital funds for the animals in our care.
We would love to set up a simple tombola table, which is always a big hit and a great way to engage with the community.

What we need:
☆ Recommendations for upcoming local events.
☆ Contact details for event organizers who might have space for a charity stall

We are fully self-sufficient with our own table and set-up, so we just need a small space to stand and spread the word about helping our local wildlife.
If you organize an event, or know of one that is looking for charity stalls, please drop a comment below or send me a direct message.
Thank you so much for your support! 🦔🦆🦉

Jane to the rescue… again! 🐦❤️

Our avian handler received a call about a young crow found on the floor in Balderton. Unfortunately, the little one isn’t developed enough to be out of the nest yet and, with no safe way of getting it back up to the nest, the best option was rehabilitation.

As many of you know, we are incredibly busy at the moment and have very limited time to travel between locations. So, with a quick message to Jane, once again this little angel stepped up to help without hesitation.

We honestly can’t thank people like Jane enough. During our busiest periods, the kindness and dedication of people willing to help with transport truly makes a difference. Without that support, many animals could sadly suffer simply due to a lack of transport.

From all of us, thank you, Jane. You really are one of the good ones 💖

Balderton Cob Saga Continues 🦢

Unfortunately, today we were alerted that the pen has pushed the cob away and is now raising her cygnets alone.

For everyone’s safety, including the cob’s welfare, we have sadly had to remove him again and will now be seeking a suitable alternative waterway for him. Unfortunately, this won’t be in Balderton, as the other local waterways are already occupied by established pairs.

While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, nature can sometimes take unexpected turns. We can only hope mum does a fantastic job raising the young and that she finds a new mate ready for next season.

Thank you to everyone who has followed the situation and shown concern for these beautiful birds. As always, the welfare of the wildlife comes first. 🦢💚

We have had a few negative comments recently, so we would like to make one thing absolutely clear:

We are here for the wildlife, not keyboard warriors.

Our focus will always be on helping and caring for the animals that need us. We are a small voluntary team already working tirelessly and often feeling exhausted by the workload we take on.

If anyone comes onto our page simply to cause drama, spread negativity, or waste valuable time, please rest assured you will be removed. We will not tolerate behaviour that takes our attention away from what truly matters, the wildlife!

We appreciate the continued support from those who understand and stand with what we do. Your kindness and encouragement mean more than you know 💖
