Today our Friday Hub was held at a different venue — Oakfield Croft care home, who have kindly offered to host us once a month. We were certainly not disappointed. The session was led by the brilliant Jenny, herself from a service family, who welcomed us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm.

The food and homemade cakes were absolutely delicious and very much appreciated by everyone who attended.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Kath, one of the residents, who proudly served in the Royal Navy as a Wren. She shared a wonderful photograph of herself in uniform, a lovely reminder of her service and story.

Great tribute to one half of a hardworking couple who go out of their way to help others.

🇬🇧 THE LEIGH FOB CIC — APPRECIATION FOLLOWERS POST 🇬🇧

Today’s appreciation goes to an absolute legend, a true Kingo and a man with the heart of a lion — Chris Squires Chris . 🫡

Some people talk about supporting veterans.
Chris has spent years actually doing it.
Having served his country and completed tours of Afghanistan and Iraq, Chris understands first-hand the bond, sacrifice and brotherhood that comes with wearing the uniform.

But what makes this man truly special is what he has done since.
Alongside his wife, Chris founded Trafford Veterans, building something that has made a genuine difference to veterans and their families across the community.

And anyone who knows Chris will know one thing:
He doesn't do it for recognition.
He doesn't do it for praise.
He does it because he genuinely gives a damn about veterans.

Chris is the type of man who will quietly put somebody else's problems before his own. He'll stand beside a veteran when they're struggling, give his time without expecting anything back and help because, to him, that's simply what brothers do.

At The Leigh FOB CIC, we have enormous respect for what Chris, his wife and the Trafford Veterans team have built.

In many ways, Trafford Veterans are the gold standard and part of the blueprint we look towards as we continue building Leigh FOB. They have shown what can happen when good people come together with one purpose — to make sure veterans are never forgotten.

Chris, from myself and everyone at The Leigh FOB CIC, thank you, brother.
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for everything you've done for our veteran community.

Thank you for helping those who needed somebody in their corner.

Check out the Hub of Hope. We are listed as a support group.

Chasing the Stigma (CTS) has launched the Hub of Hope - a national mental health database, bringing help and support together in one place, with a focus on grassroots organisations.

In May 2015 after the last Legion club closed in Trafford, we found ourselves looking for that forces camaraderie and connection. This is how Trafford Veterans started. Along the way, we have met so many amazing people, supported veterans, their families and other causes.

Would you like to see this group continue? Be proud of what we have achieved for our community in a Borough that does not have a military footprint! Why not join in! Following the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jess McKee, an Emergency Medical Technician with the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, on Saturday, we will be pausing our usual humour and banter posts for today as a mark of respect.

Today, our thoughts are firmly with Jess’s family, her friends and all of her colleagues across the East of England Ambulance Service.

The loss of a colleague is always incredibly difficult, particularly when that colleague was so young and had so much of her career ahead of her.

To everyone who has been impacted by Jess’s passing, please look after one another.

Talk to your colleagues. Talk to your friends. Reach out to your in-house support services and, if you need it, contact TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity.

There is absolutely no shame in asking for support. We spend so much of our working lives looking after others, but sometimes we need someone to look after us too.

It is okay not to be okay.
It is okay to reach out. 💚

The ambulance family is a strong one, but even the strongest sometimes needs a helping hand.

The Thin Green Line just got a little thinner. 💚

Rest peacefully, Jess. You will not be forgotten.

Today we held another action‑packed monthly Breakfast Club, made all the more meaningful as it coincided with VJ Day. At 11am we gathered for a heartfelt toast to all those who served in the Far East, remembering their courage and sacrifice.

Our Memorial Table was laid in honour of Harry Broderick of the Cheshire Regiment, whom we laid to rest on Monday. His memory was very much present with us today.

We were also proud to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Trafford branch of the Royal Naval Association — a milestone marked with plenty of smiles and shared stories.

Around sixty attendees filled the room, entertained by the fabulous Sailor Boys, whose mixture of songs brought energy, nostalgia and plenty of foot‑tapping. As always, our two popular raffles added to the fun.

A huge thank you goes to our small army of volunteers for giving up your time and making mornings like this possible. Your dedication keeps our community strong.
