Barnabus is a Christian Homeless Charity based in Manchester with a support centre and support office in Manchester city centre.

Our support workers help people find shelter, assist with benefits, housing ,employment and rehabilitation. Barnabus is a Christian Homeless Charity in Manchester with a support centre, support workers and NHS health workers in conjunction with The Urban Village Medical Practice. We also have our own Resettlement Tenancy Scheme empowering people with lived experience of homelessness into a home. W

e offer a lifeline to homeless and vulnerable people, providing hope and opportunities for transformation. We offer a strong network of support and work closely with other specialist agencies to cover all aspects of need. We don't believe anyone should be without a home. Our aim is to release people from poverty, fear and oppression, empowering people to improve and rebuild their lives in a sustainable way. 🚌 35 years of Barnabus!

Did you know that Barnabus turns 35 in 2026?

And there’s a little story behind our name…

We were originally named after Barnabas, the biblical figure known as an encourager. But when we began our very first outreach to people experiencing homelessness in Manchester, we did it from a double-decker bus! 🚌

So, Barnabas became Barnabus.

That first bus provided three simple but essential things: food, clothing and access to basic medical care.

Fast forward 35 years, and those same three things are still at the heart of what we do, now from our Beacon Support Centre. ☺️

Here’s to 35 years of encouraging, supporting and standing alongside people in Manchester. 💛

Today is a significant day for all of us here at Barnabus.

It’s International Day of Charity, a chance to recognise the important role charities play in all of our lives. From supporting people through difficult times, to bringing communities together, charities are there when people need them most.
