Russia’s “shadow fleet” is a vast, informal network of hundreds of vessels used to circumvent sanctions on energy exports. By relying on aging tankers and opaque ownership structures, Russia continues to sustain oil exports while increasing environmental and maritime security risks.

This is yet another example of how Kremlin policies under Vladimir Putin Władimir Putin exploit grey areas of international law to maintain aggressive actions despite sanctions.

💃🇵🇱 Poland dances together

When people think of Poland, they often think of its rich history, stunning heritage sites, world-class musicians or renowned scientists. Yet there is another side of Poland that deserves attention: a culture of meeting, celebrating and dancing together.

One of the most interesting cultural trends in recent years has been the return of potańcówki – open-air community dance gatherings that bring people of all ages together in public spaces. Across Poland, cities are rediscovering the joy of social dancing as a way of building community and celebrating local traditions.

This June, Warsaw is hosting several such events. Between 12 and 26 June, the renowned Sinfonia Varsovia invites residents and visitors to a series of dance evenings with live music, featuring traditional Polish village oberki (12 June), pre-war Warsaw tangos, waltzes and foxtrots (19 June), and Bulgarian horo dances (26 June).

On 20 June, the historic Czapski Palace, home to the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, will once again host the popular PLĄS x ASP Summer Dance Gathering, combining live music, dance and art in a unique setting that encourages intergenerational participation and community spirit.

These events reflect a Poland that is open, vibrant and connected through culture. They remind us that culture is not only found in museums, theatres and concert halls, but also in the simple pleasure of sharing music, conversation and a dance with others.

✨ Sometimes the best way to discover a country is not through a guidebook, but by joining its dance floor.

Dance Meetings on Grochowska Street are back! From country dances and interwar dance hall music to Balkan folk dances – the dance floor on Grochowska is waiting for an enthusiastic crowd. Anyone who enjoys moving to the beat of the music will find a dance style to suit them at Sinfonia Varsovia. D...

Oil prices may have risen because of the Iran conflict, but they will not save Russia's economy. Windfall gains were significantly offset by a stronger currency and subsidy payments to oil companies and refiners.
In the first four months of 2026, Russia's budget deficit reached 5.9 trillion roubles, already far above the 3.8 trillion planned for the whole year. More than 200,000 businesses have closed since January. Interest rates remain high. Corporate debt has nearly doubled since the full-scale invasion. Labour shortages are persistent, taxes are rising, and domestic demand is falling.
EU sanctions, now 20 packages in force, continue to restrict Russia's access to technology, finance, logistics and energy markets, imposing long-term structural costs. Higher oil prices give Russia short-term breathing space. They do not fix the structural damage. The pressure continues.

👑 🇬🇧 Did you know that a trace of Polish heritage can be found in the British Royal Family?

On the occasion of the official birthday of His Majesty King Charles III, it is worth recalling the remarkable story of Julia Hauke – a Polish noblewoman from a family with a distinguished patriotic tradition, whose descendants would go on to sit on several European thrones.

Julia Hauke was the great-great-grandmother of Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, making her also an ancestor of King Charles III. Although she spent most of her life outside the Polish lands, she never forgot the language of her parents and continued to correspond in Polish throughout her life.

Her extraordinary story is a reminder of the many historical ties that have connected European nations over the centuries and of the unexpected Polish connections that can be found within the history of the British monarchy.

On the occasion of His Majesty's Official Birthday, we extend our warmest wishes to King Charles III for good health, happiness and continued success in his service to the United Kingdom and its people.

Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!

🎬 Did you know that parts of Paweł Pawlikowski's latest film “Fatherland” were shot in the historic Adam Mickiewicz Theatre located in Cieszyn, a picturesque border town in southern Poland? The same venue was also used for scenes in “The Promised Land” directed by Andrzej Wajda – widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements of Polish cinematography.
We are delighted to note the success of Paweł Pawlikowski, who received the Best Director Award at the 79th Cannes Film Festival for „Fatherland”.
The film can be seen as the culmination of Pawlikowski’s unofficial trilogy, which began with “Ida” and continued with “Cold War”. All three works are connected by a profound reflection on individuals confronted by the forces of history and its often unforgiving mechanisms. Throughout these films, Pawlikowski explores how historical events shape personal choices, identity and human relationships.
The award in Cannes is yet another confirmation of Pawlikowski’s exceptional standing in world cinema and a testament to the enduring strength of Polish culture and filmmaking as an important voice in international discussions on history, memory and contemporary society.
We extend our warmest congratulations to the director and the entire film crew on this remarkable achievement.

Russia loves to portray its military as “invincible.” Since 2014, Ukraine has exposed Russia to be more of a paper bear, and in recent months managed to stall its battlefield progress.
Discover three long running myths behind Russia’s “invincible” image:
Myth 1: Russia is an unstoppable military force
Myth 2: Russian firepower is so powerful and terrifying that fighting it is pointless
Myth 3: Ukraine and its allies have already lost the war
