Please excuse the mess at the park over the next few weeks!

What was previously known as the Bird Hide has now been taken down as it was found to be unsafe. Later this year, a new small office building will be constructed that will be used by Groundwork employees 💚

Two rare crickets, a male and female, have been spotted in the park, marking only the 7th recorded sighting in Greater Manchester! 🌿

These tiny, elusive insects usually stay high in the treetops and are active at night, making this a special find. Their appearance highlights how climate change is shifting species’ ranges in the UK.

We had some unexpected visitors at the office last week!

Two Kingfishers flew into the office building, but luckily we had staff on site who knew the correct course of action to get them on their way again 💚

We're now looking into ways to prevent this from happening again. The RSPB have some useful advice for if you come across an injured bird: https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/if-you-find-an-injured-bird

Our Water Ambassadors have been busy in the Ecology Park fixing the fishing pegs and clearing pathways to make the park accessible for everyone 💚

They've also been checking the water quality by seeing what wildlife they can spot 🐟

What do you think of our newly installed bike shelter at the Ecology Park? 🚲

It features a herbicide-free green roof with nectar rich plants to support pollinating insects like bees, butterflies and moths, as well as other habitats which provide shelter for birds and invertebrates 🌼

They worked hard through the rain, clearing areas in our kitchen garden, wildflower meadows and more 😍

Ecology Park Nature Fact Files: Part 2!

A Rowan tree can grow up to 15m in height and can live for up to 200 years. The flowers provide pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinating insects, while the berries are a rich source of autumn food for birds, including blackbirds, redstarts, redwings and more 🐦🐝

Ecology Park Nature Fact Files: Part 1!

The teasel is probably best known for its brown, prickly stems and conical seed heads. Between July and August, when teasels are in flower, the spiky flower heads are usually green with rings of purple flowers 💚

The teasel is a tall plant, often reaching a person's height!

These plants are essential for birds, such as the goldfinch, which can often be seen descending on the flower heads in autumn to 'tease' the seeds from them 🐦
