Heaton Park & Hall This is the official page for Heaton Park, Manchester. Construction started on Heaton Hall in 1772 and finished mid 1790’s with the Orangery added in 1823.

With over 600 acres of parkland, Grade I listed Heaton Hall, the Animal Centre, a boating lake plus much more, we are proud to be the biggest and best park in the North West. Welcome to Heaton Park

Heaton Park is the largest municipal park in Europe boasting over 640 acres of heritage landscape, grazing land and landscaped gardens. The park is home to the Neo-Classical Grade 1 listed Heaton Hall

, several grade 2 listed buildings and landmarks, an animal centre and leisure activities for all tastes, including cafes, garden centre, championship golf course, Zip World, boating lake, heritage tramway and museum, adventure playgrounds, events and festivals
combine to make Heaton Park one of the most popular and affordable family days out in the North West. The state rooms include the Library, the Music Room and Dining Room and upstairs is a very rare Pompeiian Cupola Room which was the work of Italian artist Biagio Rebecca. The hall and park were owned by the Egerton family until it was put up for sale and bought by Manchester City Council in 1902. During the First World War the hall was used as a military hospital. The 12-acre boating lake was constructed between 1908 and 1912 by previously unemployed men using only shovels and hand-pulled trucks. The lake, which is overlooked by the Lakeside Café, has three islands and is home to large numbers of ornamental birds and wildfowl including herons, geese, ducks, swans and fantail doves. There are rowing boats available for hire and can be pre-booked online.

Looking for interesting things to do over the bank holiday weekend?

Why not join Heaton Park Tramway this Sunday for a commemoration of 125 years since the opening of Stockport's tramways?

Come and check out some vintage trams, and enjoy a free vintage bus shuttle between the Museum of Transport and Heaton Park!

Join us on Sunday 30th August as we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the start of Stockport's electric tramway network.

Opened on 26th August 1901, the electric trams served Stockport for half a century, with the final services operating in August 1951, being the last traditional trams in operation in Greater Manchester.

A full range of events will take place at our Middleton Road tram museum, with tram No.5 on display - one of the original trams from 1901 and the only surviving Stockport tramcar in the world. We'll also have an extra-special display of classic Stockport buses, courtesy of our friends at the Greater Manchester Transport Society, including one of those used to replace the trams in 1951.

A free vintage bus service will run at half hourly intervals between Heaton Park Tramway and the Museum of Transport, alongside a series of "tram replacement" heritage bus trips to Middleton and Blackley from our tramway museum at 11:30, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00.

If that wasn't enough, we'll have a full lineup of Stockport trams in model form, courtesy of renowned tramway modellers Ashley Best and Greg Marsden, alongside a showcase of images and artifacts from our archives, many of which have never been shown in public before.

Event takes place Sunday 30th August, 11:00-16:30. Please note that our heritage trams will not be in operation during this event.

Come and take part in a free Bollywood Dance Session this Wednesday 26th August as part of Heaton Park's 'movement' week of the Big Heaton Park Summer Challenge! 💃

Dance by PJR will lead this family-friendly, fun, interactive Bollywood dance workshop suitable for all ages and abilities. The session is designed to be engaging, inclusive and encourage everyone to get moving while enjoying music and dance together.

Join us on the 26th August at 1.30pm in the Western Pleasure Grounds (near the Animal Centre) 🐏🐓

This event is free and no booking is required - just turn up and get your boogie on!

(A responsible adult must accompany children at all times)

Happy Animal Friday everyone!

One of our lovely Kunekune pigs, Salt, is officially on a special diet under the supervision of the Animal Centre staff on the advice of the vet.

Although Salt may not be thrilled about swapping extra treats for a balanced diet, it is all part of keeping our rotund friend comfortable and healthy!

Please make sure that you aren't feeding any of our animals, no matter how cute they are - not all animals can eat the same things, and some things can be harmful to them. Though Salt might try to tell you otherwise!
