With the latest news on the passing of Sarah Everard, this campaign is extremely relevant to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding her death. This campaign aims to do everything in its power to protect women who have the right to walk home safely. What we want you to understand, is that there is no comparison when it comes to sexual violence and harassment. Enabling those 'small' behaviours such as degrading comments and unwanted touching ALL lead up to a much bigger issue. We've all pretended we're on the phone to somebody when walking home. We've all put our keys between our knuckles and we've all carried a r**e alarm at some point. This is just only a small portion of how it feels to be a female walking alone anywhere.
We know that all men don't act like this, but we do know that ALL women go through this. This is not the time to get defensive about your gender and instead, start defending the women who gave birth to you, cared for you and clothed you. The women who carried you for 9 months to defend and protect them if they come to any harm. Ask yourself this; Would you feel the same way if this was your mother, sister, auntie, grandmother who had experienced this?
If you find yourself disagreeing with this movement or enabling behaviours that you don't think you should be involved with, you are very much part of the problem. It's time we stopped normalising degrading behaviours and SPEAK UP if you see your mates acting strange towards women.
With all that being said, we've almost reached 1000 signatures! I believe we can reach this goal and get the support and change we deserve.
