What a Summer!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who nominated individuals, teams, or businesses for our Community Recognition scheme this year! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that we received over 120 nominations across various categories, including 19 Lifetime Achievement honourees (some of whom are pictured) with a remarkable collective service of over 500 years dedicated to volunteering and community engagement.

Many nominees were recognised multiple times by residents eager to highlight their significant contributions to local communities.

Each nominee has received a letter of appreciation from our Chairperson, Cllr Beverley Nielsen, along with a special keepsake pin badge (for individuals) or a framed certificate (for teams and businesses).

Thank you Ross-on-Wye & Monmouth Sea Cadets & Royal Marine Cadets for being open to the collaborative approach to getting more cadets on the water.

With an additional Trinity available to put on the water, we can effectively double the number of cadets we can put on the water for rowing at any one time given that Trinities need to work in pairs.

🔥 BOATS & BBQ UPDATE 🔥

With the recent hot, dry weather and the increased risk of wildfires, we’ve taken another look at our plans for next Saturday.

The good news is that Boats & BBQ is still going ahead! 🚣‍♀️🌭

We are, however, taking the fire risk very seriously. We will not be using disposable BBQs, and our gas BBQ will be set up with additional precautions:

• 🔥 BBQ raised off the ground on legs
• 🧱 Positioned on hard standing rather than grass
• 🧯 A suitable fire extinguisher immediately available
• 👀 BBQ supervised throughout
• 🌿 Kept clear of dry vegetation and other combustible materials

We’ll also continue to monitor the weather, fire risk and any local or site-specific restrictions. If conditions or official advice mean that it is no longer safe or appropriate to light the BBQ, we will change the plan.

The boating will continue as planned, and we're looking forward to getting everyone together at Upton for a great afternoon as part of our 45th anniversary celebrations.

Just over a week to our Boats and BBQ celebration.

Friends of the unit, new, old and those in between come a long to catch up again, enjoy a BBQ and have a go on the water (not obligatory).
