"Study nature's ways. Learn her rhythms, her seasons, her cycles. See how she hibernates and rests during the cold winter, using that time to replenish and heal. See how she bursts forth in a slow crescendo of green and bright colours over the Spring, rejoicing in the inevitable new growth. See how she gives her all, her grandest performance, over the Summer months before gradually descending into a final burst of changing colour in Autumn. Watch her cool down, return to her depths, and again take time to replenish. And each season, each time leads to the next." -Melody Beattie .

I read this quote and it reminded me about leaving Abbey House Gardens.
“Heartbreak begins the moment we are asked to let go but cannot, in other words, it colors and inhabits and magnifies each and every day; heartbreak is not a visitation, but a path that human beings follow through […]. Heartbreak is an indication of our sincerity: in a love relationship, in a life’s work, in trying to learn a musical instrument, in the attempt to shape a better more generous self. Heartbreak is the beautifully helpless side of love and affection and is [an] essence and emblem of care… [W]e use the word heartbreak as if it only occurs when things have gone wrong: an unrequited love, a shattered dream… But heartbreak may be the very essence of being human, of being on the journey from here to there, and of coming to care deeply for what we find along the way.” 💚.
Perhaps another’s in name, always our garden in legacy. 💕.

As a family, The Pollards will be moving on from our home and garden, after almost 30 years; Ian Pollard planting and designing this garden from scratch. Our legacy has been built in earth, in ancient soil where the Benedictine monks would have gardened over a millennium ago. This garden and the community of Malmesbury means everything to us but we must now say farewell - as it's time to create another beautiful life elsewhere. * This account will remain ours, acting as a photographic diary, and a way to stay in touch with all of you! We will then transform this page when we are creating another paradise.. so please do watch this space to see where life takes us next. 😉 And to stay connected.
We are forever touched by the love we have felt from you all. There are no words left to say besides Thank You. We will Miss You and this garden very, very much. 🙏🌿💚.
Stay tuned ❤️
With all our Love,
Rufus, Kristen, Kian Pollard ###

Glorious morning in our herb garden. The mist and dew drops sparkling against
suns early light. There's still so much in bloom!

Still so much in bloom through our herbaceous borders. A slice of heaven overlooking Malmesbury Abbey. 💛 . ...

Thank you for the outpouring of love through letters, messages, and emails over the past days. We miss your friendly faces in our garden already. Walking around this morning with my son Woody, the garden looked incredible in the October sun. 💛 .

After a day of mixed rain clouds and moody skies I snapped this photo from one of our windows within Abbey House. 💎
The end of an era. Our final day. After opening our garden every single spring and summer for the last 27 years. We close our gates under our ownership. There are no words to express our gratitude - for all the families whom this garden means something to, every wedding couple who has gotten married here, every child's first steps, every music concert, every sculpture exhibition. This has been the Pollard men's whole worlds, planting and loving this patch of earth. 💎
There is a sculpture as you come down our driveway which reads "Treat the Earth well, it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children." 💎
Ian Pollard built this garden, put Malmesbury on the map as a destination town, and truly left the earth a better place by creating a garden so tranquil and beautiful.
We thank you for all your support over these past decades. We thank you. We love you. We will miss you. Xx .
With gratitude,
Rufus, Kristen, Kian Pollard .
