🚒 A smoke alarm alerted around 30 people to a tumble dryer fire at a temple in Hatfield Peverel this afternoon attended by crews from Maldon and Colchester.

Everyone did the right thing – they got out, stayed out and called 999.

Thankfully, nobody was injured and firefighters quickly dealt with the fire.

Station Manager Steve Kirkham said: "That early warning from the smoke alarm gave everyone the time they needed to get to safety.

"Fires can develop quickly, but today’s incident shows the difference a working smoke alarm can make."

Firefighters are at the scene of a vehicle fire on the A12 at Witham Southbound between Junction 22 and 21.

Due to a difficult water supply, nine crews are working to put the fire out affecting a vehicle carrier on the hard shoulder.

The A12 is closed and will remain closed at Witham on the Southbound side while we put the fire out. Thank you for your patience.

🚒 💦 Planned Exercise 💦 🚒

Our drill night this evening will be slightly different as we return to Maldon Promenade Park with the kind permission of Maldon District Council.

The team will be practicing pumping from Open Water, likely from the Marine Lake, so don’t be alarmed if you see fire engines and activity at the eastern end of the park.

Why not enjoy the beautiful weather, learn about water safety, recruitment or just come and say hello? 👋

‼️ Following an incident this morning in North Fambridge, firefighters are urging residents to be aware of the hazards posed when charging lithium ion batteries.

👩🏻‍🚒 Crews from Maldon, Rayleigh Weir, Corringham and Southend worked hard to prevent fire spread to adjoining properties after a fire started from what is believed to be a lithium ion battery.

🔥 These batteries will burn rapidly with intense heat as evidenced by the damage caused to properties earlier today.

🫡 To remain safe when charging lithium ion batteries follow our guidance in the comments below 👇 and
please ensure you have a working smoke alarm. Did you know, our service can arrange fitment of working detectors completely free of charge via our Home Fire Safety programme? Just search - Essex Fire Home Fire Safety Visit.

Today, on Firefighters’ Memorial Day, we pause to honour the courage and commitment of firefighters everywhere.

We remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and those who continue to live with the impact of injuries sustained while protecting others.

At midday, we will stand together to observe a minute’s silence, paying our respects to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.

Will you be enjoying the beautiful Maldon district this Bank Holiday?

We are super lucky to be surrounded by fantastic open spaces, parks and waterways - right on our doorstep.

Before you set out this weekend take a couple of minutes to check out our top tips for staying safe!

👫 Never swim alone in case you need help
🍺 Avoid walking routes near water if you have been drinking alcohol
🏊‍♀️ Don’t dive or jump straight into open water. It can cause potentially fatal cold water shock, even on the warmest day.
🛟 If you find yourself unexpectedly in the water, don’t panic. Extend your arms and legs out and float on your back until the effect of cold water shock pass.
☎️ Never enter the water to try and rescue someone. Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service if you're inland or the Coastguard if you're at the coast.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend 😃

Crews from Maldon, Chelmsford, Tiptree, Great Baddow Fire Station, Witham Fire Station and Colchester have extinguished a fire affecting agricultural workshops containing vehicles and cylinders.

The initial call was received at 11.10 on Sunday 12th April. Upon arrival it was clear further resources were required and at its height 6 crews and an aerial ladder platform were in use.

Firefighters worked hard to contain the fire and protect surrounding risks by supplementing their water supply using a nearby fishing lake.

Station Manager Scott Fretton said: "Crews worked really hard to surround the fire and stop it from spreading. They worked through the night to extinguish the fire, replaced by relief crews at around 3am.”

"We have scaled down the incident to two crews who will continue to dampen down and check for hotspots."

An investigation will be carried out later today to establish the cause.
