Celebrating Pride Month with a special new addition 🌈

Our new rainbow walk at St Martin’s Hospital in Canterbury is a bright and visible reminder of our commitment to inclusion, ensuring patients, carers and colleagues feel welcome and valued across all our sites in Kent and Medway.

We’re proud to stand for kindness, respect and belonging for everyone, not just this month, but all year round 💙

What helps me feel seen 💚

To close Learning Disability Awareness Week, we asked people living with a learning disability and those caring for someone with a learning disability, what helps them to feel seen.

In this video, Paul and Vanessa share that more time, clear language, and being addressed directly on their level makes a meaningful difference.

We are incredibly grateful to all the people who shared their voices in this series, and to Chloe Farahar, Project Manager for Learning Disability and Autism at our trust, and videographer Stephen Legall who coordinated this campaign.

Stay tuned to our social media channels to find out more about a fuller campaign to help people with a learning disability live well, that is launching later this year.

What is one takeaway you’ll carry into your daily life from this series?

Powering a greener future for healthcare in Kent and Medway ☀️

On the longest day of the year, we’re celebrating the success of our solar panel programme, now installed across several of our sites.

Not only will this help reduce our carbon footprint, but it’s also expected to save around £74,000 each year, money that can go back into supporting patient care.

Solar panels are now in place at sites including:

📍 St Martin’s Hospital in Canterbury
📍 Trevor Gibbens Unit in Maidstone
📍 Littlebrook Hospital in Dartford

By generating our own renewable energy, we’re becoming more sustainable and resilient, while continuing to focus on what matters most: caring for our communities 💙

Learning Disability Awareness Week: Include me 👐

When Rosie was offered therapy, she was expected to use a computer, do the work online, or go to a library to use a computer there.

Rosie has a learning disability and can't do those things, so instead of feeling supported, she was left frustrated and shut out.

Including someone means not assuming they can manage the ‘standard’ way of doing things, and instead, asking what works for them and making adjustments.

Thank you to Rosie for sharing her experiences 💚

Listen to my voice 🗣️

This Learning Disability Awareness Week, we’re sharing voices of those with lived experience of a learning disability.

In this video, we ask Vanessa, why she thinks mental health is often poorer with people with learning disabilities and from her perspective, what sort of support is helpful.

Research and innovation, shaping your future care 🔬

Today, we’re celebrating Red4Research Day 2026, a moment to recognise the incredible work happening across Kent and Medway to make research accessible to all.

Our Research and Innovation team, based in Maidstone, has been working hard to ensure research is accessible across the region.

To date, our team has delivered over 200 high-quality national research studies, enabling more than 10,000 participants to take part, from observational studies through to complex clinical trials.

Working in partnership with patients, carers and clinical teams, they are making research happen every day, improving care, creating opportunities, and changing lives.

Thank you to everyone involved in making research part of everyday care.

See the person, not the disability 🌻

In today’s video for Learning Disability Awareness Week, hear from Paul who loves making crafts and mending furniture, and Stephen who enjoys gardening and growing sunflowers.

A learning disability is simply one part of who someone is and is not their whole story.

Seeing and getting to know the patient before their diagnosis sounds simple, but it changes how an appointment can progress for everyone involved.

Learning Disability Week: Do you see me? 👁️

This year’s theme for Learning Disability Week is “Do you see me?” highlighting the importance of ensuring people with a learning disability are seen, heard and valued.

In today’s video, meet Vanessa and Rosie who have a learning disability, and Daniel who is a learning disability nurse.

Throughout the week, we will be shining a light on their voices of lived experience and sharing what helps them to feel seen when accessing mental health support.
