With warmer days ahead, it’s important to look after yourself and those around you. Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people and those with health conditions may feel the impact sooner.
Here are some simple ways to stay cool and well:
Stay hydrated – drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Keep your home cool – close curtains during the hottest part of the day and open windows when it’s cooler.
Check weather alerts – sign up for weather alerts and health warnings so you know when temperatures are rising.
Dress for the heat – wear loose, light‑coloured clothing and use suncream if you need to go outside.
Store medication safely – keep medicines in a cool, dry place and check the label for any temperature‑sensitive instructions.
Check in on others – older neighbours, friends and relatives may need extra support in hot weather.
