There's an old saying, give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.

It was with this wisdom in mind that three seamstresses from the Tovil Repair Cafe held a free sewing workshop at the Housing 21 retirement complex in Tovil Green on Saturday.

They demonstrated the basics of using a sewing machine to six willing pupils, who all went away happy with their new found skills.

The Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Brian Clark, himself a regular repairer at the Repair Cafe, also went along to give encouragement to the pupils and tutors.

Our thanks to Sonya Walsh and Roger Hydes of Carbon Action Tovil for organising such a helpful event for the parish.
