Firefighters don't just fight fires, they are trained in water rescue for inland waters such as rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

If you ever see someone struggling water in inland water, be sure to ring 999 and ask for the fire service.

It’s Chimney Fire Safety Week, running from 7–13 September 2026.

As the colder months approach, it’s important to make sure your home and heating appliances are safe to use.

👉 Never store fuel next to your appliance. Keeping fuel too close can create a serious fire risk.
👉 Make sure your chimney is swept before you start using your appliance regularly.
👉 Check that your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly.

Taking a few simple steps can help you enjoy the warmth and comfort of your home safely this winter.

Today, we remember and honour firefighters who have sadly lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Annual Service of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony, organised by the Firefighters Memorial Trust, was held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

The service brings together members of the fire and rescue community to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting their communities.

A wreath was laid in remembrance of all those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, providing an opportunity to reflect on their courage, dedication and service, and to remember the families, friends and colleagues they left behind.

Lawrence and our Fire Cadets represented Kent Fire and Rescue Service at this year's service, joining colleagues from across the fire and rescue community to honour and remember those who have gone before us.

Firefighting operations are now complete at a field fire on Valley Road in . No injuries were reported.

⚠Update at 5:17pm:

People living or travelling near Valley Road in are no longer being advised to close windows and doors, following a field fire.

Four fire engines remain at the scene, and crews have made good progress extinguishing the fire and tackling hot spots. Crews also worked with a farmer to create a fire break using a tractor.

We’re looking for someone to join our team as a Resilience Support Officer.

📍 Location: Service Headquarters, Maidstone (hybrid working, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office)
📅 Contract: Full Time – 37 hours per week
💰 Salary: £29,580–£32,652 per annum + Local Government Pension Scheme + Blue Light Card + excellent benefits

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Resilience Team and support the Water Services Team, helping to ensure we have the right information, processes and arrangements in place to support the delivery of our services and keep our communities safe.

What you'll do:
🔹Work closely with colleagues within the Water Services Team and act as a key point of contact
🔹Carry out daily tasks and administration to support the team
🔹Maintain the asset management system, ensuring water provision information is accurate and up to date
🔹Support compliance with relevant legislation
🔹Support the wider Resilience Team with ad-hoc work and activities when required

We’re looking for someone who can plan and organise their workload, communicate confidently with a range of people and use their problem-solving skills to make recommendations. You’ll also need a full UK driving licence, a basic understanding of the Water Industry Act 1991 and confidence using IT packages.

Most importantly, you’ll become part of a team that plays an important role in supporting the resilience of our service and the safety of our communities.

A family in had a lucky escape today after a small fire started in their tumble dryer. Thankfully, the fire was out when crews arrived and no one was injured.

Tumble dryers are particularly prone to catching alight, and it's often due to lint build up. Following this incident, crews are reminding people to check your tumble dryer and clear out any lint fluff regularly to reduce the chance of a fire!

It's best to only run white goods appliances like tumble dryers, washing machines, and a dishwashers when you're at home and awake - so you can call 999 for the fire service fast, if there's a fire.
